I picked up a '73 Eldo
« on: August 04, 2022, 12:06:39 AM »
I picked up a '73 Eldo last summer that has a side stand switch mounted on it. Was this a standard option at any time? or maybe a police model option? I'm most likely going to remove it. I worried that is a future problem when I least need it!

Hi [EdselLopez] - Let me have the honor of being the first to welcome you to the forum.

An expert will be along shortly to help you with your question. I had a '72 Eldo and it had no such widget - they were pretty basic machines.

You're going to love it.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Welcome to the forum!

Interesting name  -

We're looking forward to see some photos of your bike! Please.  :gotpics:

Somehow, I'd be surprised if you don't have more bikes than the Eldo?
Is that your first Guzzi?

Congrats on the new acquisition!

My '72 doesn't have a side stand switch.  The few times I've taken off with the stand down made me pucker a little bit when the stand eventually touched down during a slight lean to the left.

To my knowledge there was never a side stand switch from the factory.  Probably added by a previous owner, or modified by a police department if it’s a Police model that was ever in service.

^^^ This. No switch from the factory. Owner must have been like one of my customers - crashed his Eldo twice due to forgetting to put the stand up. I ended up putting the police left crashbar and long stand on it and painting the stand day-glo orange. No problem since.

I have a'73 that the PO did the same thing. The switch is mounted on the pipe bracket to the frame.

This could be me. Even with a note on my fairing, at least 50% of the time, I forget to kick the sidestand up. I take a left out of the driveway, hear the scraping, and curse. I haven't gone down yet (knock wood). I guess I'm just so excited to ride the loop.

Yeah, if I aint leaving the side stand down on departure, I didn't turn on the fuel tap.  Then after my first turn I discover a mile or two later down the road that my turnsignal is still "on".

painting the stand day-glo orange.

There is a reason that pilots have check lists for take off and landing. All it takes is some little difference in your "start up drill" and you'll leave with the stand down. That's why I never defeat sidestand interlocks.
