Who made this Loop fairing?
« on: March 22, 2019, 05:50:46 PM »
My new to me 1970 Ambassador came with floor boards, leg guards and this fairing. Wondering who made it and if it’s worth putting on the bike?  It has a little character but should clean up.

Thanks,
T4

That's the factory "polizia" or "Buffalo" fairing. Best protection of any handlebar fairing I've ever ridden behind. My '69 V700 and '69 Ambo both came with one, I added one to "Barney" the '71 Ambo.

Great to hear you found something you like. My ambo came with the same faring and it cant wait to get out of the garage....maybe this weekend if it warms up enough to melt the ice on my driveway

post some pics of the rest of the bike...where'd you get it?

Buffalo re-pops also available for $167.83 through MG Cycles. Never rode behind one but like the looks.

Thanks Frank. Found it here in southern MI.

Sure, you can buy the body and screen, but not the "special bits" - all of the mounting hardware, the aluminum trim and rubber gasket at the base of the screen. Greg Bender has drawings on his website so one could make the mounts, the aluminum trim is a little harder but still doable and I guess you could substitute a piece cut from a bicycle inner tube for the rubber gasket.

There are two different types: "short nose" for most Ambos and Eldos, and "long nose" for V700s and early Ambos with the deeper headlight bucket.

Guzzi made similar fairings for small-blocks and early Tontis.

All the original mounting hardware is there. The handlebar mounts and headlight bucket bits have not been removed or lost. I cant believe how lightweight this fairing is. I cant wait to put it on and see how well it works.

That "Polizia" fairing is  IMHO the best you can get for a loop. The aluminum trim on the front, the mounting brackets ,and the special nuts that hold it onto the headlight mounts can be very hard to find. New , re pop windshields are available from MG cycle for less than $100.
Once you ride behind a buffalo fairing, you will be hooked..Its that good!
I went from a Wixom ranger fairing, to the buffalo, and prefer the buffalo hands down. With the Wixom, you have to remove the fairing to check the fuses in the headlight bucket. I never liked that.
Another plus,is the buffalo fairing is very quick/easy to remove, and remount if you want to "go naked"! :thumb:
