So you're just laying in bed not bothering anyone , and then the bed starts shaking , the dog starts acting all weird , maybe this is a dream , man this one is sure lasting a long time , stuff starts crashing to the floor , WTH , this is Oklahoma land of the Red Man , and tornadoes , NOT earth quakes, oh , wait , yeah apparently we are the quake kings these days . At least we aren't gonna fall off in the Gulf Of Mexico , well , not before Texas gets outta the way :laugh:
I do wish the folks that schedule these things could pick a better time for a 5.6 to occur , 7 AM Saturday morning is way too early :laugh:

Dusty, you'll get used to it. Regular small quakes beat intermittent big ones. Course, I'm in SoCal living on the Pacific tectonic plate where it's expected. Oklahoma? Not so much expected. Can't think of any major faults there, and it's in the middle of the North American plate. Maybe a new rift? Any idea of the causes?

I had one in IL rattle dishes, who would have thought. What's next a volcano in OK?

Oh we have some major faults here Vince :rolleyes: Actually there is a a fault line or three in Oklahoma , and we have been experiencing several shakers a week . As for the cause , well , the waste water injection wells aren't helping .

woke me up and shook the bed about 7 am. It was a big one. Felt in 7 states.
that New Madrid thing, that's a major. Mississippi River, Memphis to St Louis.

Most models show the New Madrid is about 100 years overdue for a significant quake. When I lived in St Louis in the 6y0s, we had a couple of small ones, about 3.6 to 4.0, but with the new info they figure there's one on the way that will make the Italian one look tame - more like SF 1906 or 1989, and hitting Memphis, STL or both.

Read the history from the 1800's when the new Madrid slipped last time.
Changed the course of the Mississippi, trembled Washington DC, was felt in Rhode Island.
If she goes again the Great Lakes will be on it's way to the Gulf of Mexico.

Whatever the so-called "experts" know is after the incidents not before them. :boxing: When Mt. St. Helens blew the "experts" didn't know any more than the rest of us human guinea pigs. :rolleyes: Same thing happens many times there's an earthquake......oh, we didn't know there was a crack there........... :shocked:....but we do now

I offer this for shits and giggles.
I had insomnia last night and didn't get to sleep until 4 am. Now that happens once in a while maybe 3 or 4 times a year. Anyway, I called my mom, she had nightmares and woke in the middle of the night and she told me that I was the 4th person today that mentioned to her that they had trouble sleeping last night.
That is an odd coincidence so many people with insomnia before an earthquake. So I googled it and:

The New Madrid goes all the way to southern Ill Noise. And it is due for a biggee, one that will re arrange the southern midwest a bunch. You had best hope that you are at some campout about a thousand miles away when it clicks.

Yep. Back in my early days as a structural designer, I was surprised at the higher seismic zones in some areas (as per local building codes ) as well as those published in steel design manuals.
