ENI North America is closing this month
« on: March 04, 2019, 03:25:10 PM »
I was ordering the eni i-Ride Racing SAE 10W-60 via their sales representative to obtain the $96.61 Special Price (https://buyenilubes.com/index.php/shop/motorcycle-engine-oils.html) and she advised me that ENI North America is closing this month.  I wished her well for future employment.

They never should have dropped the Agip name, Eni sounds to much like a weird bird.

So, where does that leave those of us who have been running Agip 10w60 4T Racing oil since Day One? Suggestions.

Do I recall reading where Guzzi had switched from Agip to recommending Castrol sometime in the recent past?

And Motul.  I wouldn’t assume that you won’t countinue to be able to get Eni lubricants just because Eni Na is closing.

Hi all,

Check out the Amsoil site.  They make 10w 60w synthetic for dirt bikes - $15.25/qt.  Will this work?
Be well,

My 28 year old R100GS seems to run just fine on Mobil1 20w50 V Twin oil for air cooled engines.  Of course, though it is only 150cc smaller than the 1200 Sport, quite a bit of difference in the factory rw hp specs.
BMW:  58hp
Guzz:  95hp
I don't know if that's the rationale for Guzzi recommending 10w60 or not.  Just a random thought.

Closing in North America? Are you sure about that? I've struggled to find anything about that. There is one local paper (Butler Eagle) that you have to sign up to read the full article, that has a headline stating they are closing one plant in Pennsylvania. Google maps shows what looks like a small depot/warehouse at that location. Not a major plant at all.
So I wouldn't panic yet about not being able to buy that brand.
Anyway they don't make anything dozens of other brands don't.

Most auto parts stores can get this.
Some of the Porsche dealers carry it.

My V7 III Owner's Manual specified Castrol 10W-60.

SAE 10W - 60. As an alternative to the
recommended oils, you can also use brand
name oils with performance that meets or
exceeds the CCMC G-4 A.P.I. SG standards.

Hello Perazzimx14,
Sorry for the late reply...at work.
I have a 2015 and a 2017 California 1400 Tour.  Both manuals call for "High Quality 10W60" motor oils.

I have used Amsoil with no problems.

Mr Revhead -- perhaps it is just the buyenilubes.com online lubricants store that is closing rather than ENI NA itself.  I was startled when the sales representative made the statement and didn't inquire more closely.  Looks like an oversight on my part.  My apologies.

Just wondering why you blokes buy in jugs? Why not just buy a 20L drum and a drum pump? Whatever you use you'll find it drops the price considerably. If you have a current smallblock you'll probably get ten oil changes out of a drum. It's not like it's going to go 'Off' or anything......

Why not buy a 50 gallon drum of oil its even cheaper. I'm sure if you buy a tanker full its even cheaper. Not like it'll go "off" or anything. The reality is dealing with pails of oil is just not worth the savings. AGIP it was suggested storing the quart bottles upside down or shake well before using as stuff would settle out. Unless I'm getting and industrial paint shaker to go with my 20L pail shaking to resuspend additives is unlikely to happen.I use at least 5 different weight oils in different 4 stroke ICB engines around the homestead. Having 5 20L pails is something that I have zero interest in housing and dealing with. If I wanted to save some real money i'd be far better off install occupancy sensors on my home lighting.

That's a great idea. I guess I never realized there was a size between 4L and barrel. Looks like some of the 20L containers have a pour spout like on a fine boxed wine. I would much prefer to have a few of them on the shelf instead of my current mess of partially filled containers.

I would not go within ten miles of an engine oil that needs to be shaken before use!!!
