What are you 75 mi. away?  Pack your stuff for a weekend.  Camp out.  Nice campgrounds.  Would be a test ride for you.  With the Moto Guzzi demo fleet there.  You'll have a good time.  The rally fee is worth it.  The caterer that did the meals last time was excellent.  Keene has some nice restaurants too.

About 150 for me, so kinda close. Ive been to a few rallys, but never a Guzzi one. well unless you count the IMOC one a few years ago..  Looks like it will be a blast. I hope I can make it.   Here is hoping the whole - thing is wrapping up by then!!!

A ďtypicalĒ Guzzi rally might bring 50-100 people.  The ďNationalĒ will attract hundreds.  If youíre gonna make one next year, this is it.  NICE location and great people.

My family is in Dover as well. And 9 across southern Vermont is a great ride. Problem coming from Central Indiana is Ohio and NY.  :coffee:

I'd be interested if anyone else considered making the trip from this part of the world on 2 wheels.

I've done a lot of work in Peterborough. Usually stayed in Keene, been there many times all 4 seasons. Always beautiful. Some cool old graveyards if you venture down the dirt roads.
Great area!

Im trying to preplan as much as I can..  Between -, and responsibilities at home pre reg is not a option for me...  That being said for all that know the aera, how close are the hotels to the grounds? Are camp sites right near the main rally? I like hotels..  but am fine with camping, just wondering what might be best.

I'll be there.  reserved Best Western yesterday.  No more sleeping on the ground for me-too close to sleeping IN the ground!
I'll be working with Jimmy Hamlin-it's always fun.  I SURE hope - doesn't put the squash on this.

Looks like a nice ride for me.. I can take the pike to rte 91... or better up through bennington, or through northwestern mass, over to rte 9...  doesn't look like many towns, and vary little straight lines on the map, so doesnt look like the pike will be in the cards for me...

A little longer for me.  I'd be coming up from 16th St. & McDowell in Phx.  but the trip would actually start in Kona to Phx. by air then get my bike......blah....b lah....blah....🤪

Last time I wimped out.  Flew HAL KOAHNL HNLEWR then bus to Manhattan.  Taxi to the friends place in the East Village.  Greyhound the next day to Keene.  The last time I did any long bus rides was back in uniform.  Pretty cool now.  Wifi on board with 110v outlets.  I had to change buses in BOS bus & train terminal.  Impressive terminal was almost like being at an airport with different multi-level boarding gates.  Trains on the bottom and buses up above.

A motorcycle ride cross country.  Easy Peasy!  🤪🤪🤪

My version of "Planes, Trains & Automobiles".     Not for the weak.  13 hr plane ride to Newark International.

The 2015 one was nice and in the very same spot, wasn't it?.   Lots of room to camp ... I'll have had 6 more years since then of winding down wanting to "camp" and preferring hotels, but will probably do it anyway both in recognition of my fixed-income pensioner status, and because you can just fall into bed after you're done talking and "wettin' the lips" rather than heading off-site after dark for a hotel.

Probably won't plan much ahead, because there's no telling what the "issue of the day" might be, affecting travel and accommodations; but I'm not so poor that I can't afford a sporting flutter on $75.   If it's too hard, or I need an implanted chip to cross New York State or something, then the rally can always use it .... !

Didn't you get a lot of rain on that trip?

Nothing wrong with your memory!

It's a 1300 mile round trip for me (no interstates), and coming home, I rode through the hardest rain I think I've ever ridden through.   By the time I wanted to pull over and stop, it was too late to pull over and stop; couldn't see the roadside and afraid someone might be following my taillight and hit me.   Just had to keep going, in amazement that the Stelvio could swallow that much water and keep running.  That was in Connecticut.

By the time I got to Harrisburg, PA on US15 that evening, I was riding into the ugliest mammato-cumulus squall line I'd seen in a while, so right before I hit it, I pulled into a Holiday Inn Express and under their portico.   I'd had all the blinding rain squalls I wanted, and ESPECIALLY not after dark!

It's the "Express" version, right, like an "Express Lane" cheap convenience store, or "Holiday Inn Lite".   Not in Harrisburg it wasn't, $140 to stay for 10 hours but once they hit me with the price, it was too late to get back on the bike .... !!

Trips to rallies always have memories.   At the 2015 Rally I rode a demo V7-III, got help replacing my spark plug lead, met Randy Tefft, blackcat, and other Guzzi notables, and got a hug from some guy from Hawaii ... !!

Meet me in Memphis and we can ride that southern route you have planned...I've mapped it out also, although I was thinking of cutting across a bit lower, but we'll see.  I fancy a ride to NH, after all Randy always comes down to the GRIT rallies and wins Long distance rider awards every year!

Staring at the calendar yesterday....not 100% sure.  Work considerations.   :embarrassed:  Option A..."Planes, Trains & Automobiles" again or Option B which includes more saddle time from PHX.  Mostly Interstate jaunts.  I like option B but the other variables would have to be worked out.

I actually lived in Mesa, AZ for almost 10 years and I also play a resident now.  Like Chuck said I have stashed bikes in different parts of the country to pu and ride to the MGNOC National Rally.  Only area I haven't spent that much time is in the SE.

Dirk I did send a PM to you for specific questions on AZ.  I still go there on a frequent basis.  PM me if you still want to pick my brain.  There are a number of guys on the forum that have made the transition.

More details for the rally.  Randy is looking at breaking even on the costs.  The incentive is not to make a profit but to sponsor the rally so that there is a National rally.

The rally fee covers:3 dinners, camping for the rally & open soft drink fountain includes coffee, iced tea & lemonade.  Breakfasts will be available for purchase.

Within the cost of the rally are deposit to reserve the fairgrounds, $1 million insurance bond, security and porta potties.  Not sure on the requirement for the fire department to be there for the campfire.

The campgrounds are on a grassy area.  Electrical outlets in the dining pavilion.  Hot showers and also flush toilets.  Ever camp at a rough National campground out West?  No running water.  You're lucky if you can wash in a creek and black bears included.

Don't know if additional charges for RV hookups.

100th anniversary tees available for purchase.

Still no confirmation on the USA Moto Guzzi demo fleet showing up.  (I'd pay to beat up a new model bike )

Some celebrities have invited.  No confirmation.  Billy Joel - His shop is near by.  The BOSS.  If he still has his bike.

Nearby some really nice roads.  Loudon Classic for motorcycle races.  Some good Chinese restaurants in town.  I found a liquor store nearby.  I got some Bulleitt Bourbon for late night for the fire.  Last time around there was a lot of beer in the communal ice chests.   :thumb:

The nearest supermarket can steam lobsters and there is sushi.  Had that and beer for Saturday lunch.   :food:  Good mix of food.

One set rally fee.  There was discussion on maybe a separate meal ticket in additional to the rally fee.  The problem is that extra requirements to have the rally still need to be covered.  Fairgrounds, insurance, security, porta potties etc.  This is not like a large rally like Sturgis, Americade or BMWOA.  If they make some money, they're lucky.  There is no ala cartel.

I'll be collecting the meal tickets again.  The excuses that the free loading moochers try are amazing.  "I thought the meals are free."  No, they're included in the rally fee.  "I left the tickets in my tent/hotel room."       Fair warning...your tickets in hand while standing in line.

Yeah.....I'll pay the rally fee and buy a tee plus volunteer.

Pay the damn rally fee. It is a nightmare at the sign in table when you have people that don't want to pay for certain meals because they are not GMO approved. Or they just want to look around. Go to a nudist camp and see if you can get in to "just look around". I've been associated with m/c rallies since 1959 and Moto Guzzi rallies since 1971. Be thankful that someone wants to put in the countless hours to host the event.

I go to events and don't partake in the bike show, free beer, demo rides, etc  but still gladly pay the FULL entry fee. My longtime Guzzi friend, Steve Walker, from Arkansas put it best when he said the rally fee is worth just visiting with old friends and making new ones.

the rally fee is a bargain. What does it cost to go to any major sporting event? You can't afford it because you've spent all your money at Starbucks or bought a Powdered Comanche, then let me know and I'll take up a collection for you.

Tex

Damn...there goes my chance at winning long distance award if Mr. Lovelady makes it across!  :)

Trying to figure out work / vacation schedule as well, already booked for Colorado for 2 weeks in May, and would need to take another 2 weeks to enjoy a leisurely pace from Houston up to NH, and if you're that close, might as well do some of Canada too!

Would love a Tshirt, pins and other goodies that will most likely be available, might just send in the payment for that alone in the event I can't make it.

Title: NH Rally Hotel(s)...Suggestion
Post by: SLDMRossi on January 07, 2021, 02:41:40 PM
Having just spent some time booking a Hotel in Keene, NH for the 2021 Rally, I suggest you get right on it and do the same...if you haven't already. There are rooms available, but...the rates are sure high! And they'll only go up as we head toward the Summer.

I'm at the Fairfield Downtown, so my wife can walk around a bit if she doesn't want to do all the Moto Guzzi stuff. There's also a Marriott Courtyard there. The other choices are out along the main roads, in and out of Keene...with no access to anything else.

repost

I took a great road trip from OKC to NYC by way of Maine.  Fantastic.  Great roads, great scenery.

Stopped in St Louis and had Italian on the Hill.  Then Columbus at the AMA museum and a great night in Cleveland and R&R Hall of Fame.  Then a resort on Lake Erie and tour of covered bridges.  Then to Niagara Falls and original Buffalo wings.  Then on to Lake George.  A tour around Lake Champlain and overnight in Burlington (I should've taken time for Montreal, dang it).   Then a road trip to Maine through fall foliage.  A weekend in Ogunquit ME.  Then upstate NY and a visit to FDR's place at Hyde Park (driving past Woodstock and Levon Helm Dr).  Then parked the car in New Jersey via Palisades and took a ferry to Manhattan where we spent a week.   Then trip back through Roanoke Virginia and couple of nights in Nashville.  Then back home.

Even the interstate hwy travel was good.   Tons of great roads and beautiful America.   It's hard to screw up a trip to the NE unless you have no time and have to rush and hooof it;  if so, then why do it?

Damn...there goes my chance at winning long distance award if Mr. Lovelady makes it across!  :)

Trying to figure out work / vacation schedule as well, already booked for Colorado for 2 weeks in May, and would need to take another 2 weeks to enjoy a leisurely pace from Houston up to NH, and if you're that close, might as well do some of Canada too!

Would love a Tshirt, pins and other goodies that will most likely be available, might just send in the payment for that alone in the event I can't make it.

I am also out. Richard Guthrie lives 5 miles west of me. If Cookie comes, we will probably fly her partway. Maybe to Kalamazoo where a relative lives. Plus, it is fun to say Kalamazoo.

It's in my calendar, and hope to make it. Still waiting on some work issues. I will be changing jobs, and not sure when my start date at the new job is. Will either be coming from Alexandria VA or Sumter SC.

Any word on ride routes and style? I'd love to take the Stornello, would be a good test of the setup and carrying capability is huge and best if there are a bunch of back/gravel roads, but also want to take the Convert, which has those huge DB saddle bags. I trust it for all day rides, but not sure about a 1400 mile round trip yet. Both will be on new tires/tubes for the ride. Or maybe the 1200 Sport.... The 30L HB bags would make packing tight, would have to get one of those seat mounted dry bags for the camping gear and week long trip. Decisions decisions..........

Those with the travel and time bandwidth who would prefer to avoid 95 all the way will enjoy going through the Poconos for peace of mind. Taking the route up into the Green Mts- even better. Regardless, I avoid 95 when possible, I like exiting and returning into NH via 84 when I have to be speedy.  I think 84 has less crazies. Iím sure Iíll have more recommendations as we draw nearer.

Still tossing this around, and I really hope to go. At this point Im pretty sure i will be camping. With the unknown about - still looming, I will just plan to avoid the hotels, and no risk loosing a deposit. Last few years ive been spending my summers out on cape cod, so depending on weather this spring, I might be heading north from the cape, or east from home in NY. The trip from home is much nicer of a ride by far!!  Not sure there is a non highway/city ride from cape cod north to NH....   I thought about road tripping it each day also... not a real bad ride...  about 150 miles.  But you miss so much only being there part of the day.

What is the camping situation like there? Designated sites? Woodstock? Somewhere in between?
If I CAN make this happen, I'll be a solo camper.

Flat, open though I think there is a tree line. The showers were nice and the pavilion for food, etc. is large; I hate to camp but thought it was perfectly OK.

Yes, I noticed that, even with AAA and AARP discounts still pretty high.

I was able to get  into the same B&B I stayed in at the last national and Randy's Guzzi get togethers.

That's The  Bridges Inn at Whitcomb House if anyone is interested.

Regardless, I'm not a drinker, so I've no trouble being moderate these days, haha.
I like campfires, it's just a shame you can't easily tell any more jokes anymore, it would seem. Back when it was the norm, I used to have quite a few good ones. Of course if you go ahead and pick your offended party I can still probably rattle off a few as we sit... :whip2:

For those who donít mind being a little farther from the fairgrounds...keep in mind that VT and NH have thousands of small businesses, inns and B&Bís that have been crushed by - restrictions and would LOVE your patronage.  The chain hotels donít care...our small businesses do and appreciate your hard earned money.

I certainly donít want to step on any toes regarding organized rides but I live less than 20 miles from Keene and know the roads from here to the Kanc like the back of my hand.  Iíd be happy to show anyone some great paved or unpaved routes.  It would be a great time to hit the Puppy Dog Trail for those on scramblers or V85TTís.

I live in Dover, south of Conway and south east of Laconia. My go-to route to Conway is often Rt 153, also listed as a Best-Of route by New England Riders (NER). Itís the route I have boxed in the attached pic. Scenic and often not busy at all. Definitely worth doing if for no other reason than avoiding boring, dangerous freeways.

Normally, yes...but the Guzzi rally is overlapping Laconia Bike Week and every road on your map will be packed with Harleyís going 5mph under the speed limit, holding up traffic.  I realize people are traveling from around the country and might want to hit things like Mt. Washington and the Kancamangus but this is literally the worst week of the year to do it.  Central NH will be infested with 100,000 leather vest wearing dentists.  The nice thing about Keene is that you can run out Route 10 to check out the windmills in Lempster or head West and be in Vermont in 20 minutes.  The fire tower on Pitcher Mt. is a half hour ride away.  The Madame Sherri House in Chesterfield is a half hour.  Keene is right on Rte 9 so tens of thousands of bikes will be rolling through but you can avoid a lot of the chaos if you stay away from any road connected in some way to the direction to and from Laconia.

Iíll meet you halfway in agreement. Iíve ridden this route during bike week, and youíre correct. The Harleys will certainly be out. And the particular route I mentioned has its share of towns with lobster shacks and taverns that will be busy enough with them. I forgot about the timing, but Iíve still enjoyed the route. Just go in the morning when theyíre hung over ;)

Iíve also ridden the Kanc during bike week, and while I do get annoyed by those not going the same exact speed that I preferógrumbling at those who fly up behind me and eye-rolling at those ahead of me going 7km/h under the speed limitóthe view is worth it. If you have the bandwidth, avoid Saturday and Sunday, or at least try to go in the a.m.

And if youíre looking for a good mountain hike, Mt. Major is 2 hours away. Itís usually busy, but has fantastic views of Lake Winnipesaukee, like this:

And hereís a view of some of the Whites (from Mt. Cannon, specifically):

Hereís the Flume Gorge, within the Whites:

Keene to the Whites is over 2 hours, so if not doable, Mount Monadnock is 30 minutes to the southeast:

I went with the Tartan Fox B&B which is closer and cheaper than the Keene hotels http://www.tartanfox.com/ (http://www.tartanfox.com/)

Anyone have some scoop on facilities other than the hookups mentioned? Alternately, where's the nearest creek? If this is 3 days potentially on the heels of the Laconia deal, I might be looking for the nearest river, lol.

As for the black flies, their small window of absolute horror should be long gone by then. Not to say they won't be out, just not as bad as it gets early on... Mosquitos might be worse than black flies at that point. As a backpacker and past fly-fisherman, my go-to concoctions are those with Picaridin, as opposed to Deet, which will destroy waterproof coatings, and wreak havoc on flies and floating line. Sawyer makes one readily available locally.

Funny how, "Hurry Up! turned into "Be Patient" after the elections. Why the National Guard isn't actively working to administer these out in vast numbers is yet another reason to trust the govt to screw it up.

Is there a possibility that it will be postponed??  Could the Governor of NH, like the Governor of MN, simply ban gatherings of more than "X" people and force a shutdown??

Another question...If it's not postponed, how many attendees are expected??

I don't have a response to the # of attendees, because this will be my first time, but as a Granite State resident...

* Governor Sununu has NOT been doing a terrible job in response to the virus (that's a double negative because I refuse to say any governor or president has done a good job). He's certainly not as cautious / restrictive as the neighboring governors, but isn't one of the ones flubbing it up either. Laconia Bike Week was held last year and didn't appear to be the super spreader that Sturgis was. Maybe a month or so ago, Governor Sununu recently issued a mask mandate to all people, but it's a statement with no teeth in enforcement.

So while I can't predict the future, and who knows if these stickier strains will affect restrictions, but my guess is that Sununu is looking to continue opening things up when possible, especially with the vaccines rolling out, albeit with a strong note of caution. After all, the Governor is elected every 2 years here, and NH likes to bounce across the aisles politically.

The current precautions do request quarantining for folks traveling to or from outside New England:

Bike Week was held last year and didn't appear to be the super spreader that Sturgis was.

Super spreader ?  I cannot find anything that supports that.  The CDC's analysis was able to come up with 86 cases from an attendance of approximately 460,000.

"Fifty-one primary event-associated cases were identified, and 35 secondary or tertiary cases occurred among household, social, and workplace contacts, for a total of 86 cases"

Your quote of 86 is incomplete--that was the number of cases spread directly to the state of Minnesota afterward. That's Minnesota alone, not including other states.

I read the CDC's analysis.  Tell me how is was a "super-spreader" event ?

While I donít think this is the post to keep this particular discussion going, Iím easily baited. So...

Prefacing first that the term itself is not strictly defined. BUT... the event caused 86 cases in one state alone. To my knowledge, the CDC didnít report on any other states following the rally. It doesnít necessarily matter how many were in attendance at the rally versus how many of them became infected. What matters is how many of those who became infected walked away and likely spread a VERY COMMUNICABLE virus onto others. One state is on record for 86 cases. Many more people came from other states, so I reckon itís safe to say that quite a few of these folks took the virus back home to others, and from there...

The current picture shows clearly that itís not hard to spread.

For the sake of the post, if anybody wants to debate more about my claim, I invite them to PM me personally.

VT has administered 90,000 doses of -.  The population of the state is 600,000.  NH has given 166,000 doses and the population is 1.4 million.  Theyíve been vaccinating a little over 6 weeks.  By the time the rally rolls around a significant percentage of residents here will have been vaccinated.  Probably 2/3rds to 3/4.

Aside from the stupid hippy anti-vaxxers, I think New England will have a very high percentage of people who opt for being vaccinated so itíll probably be as safe here as anywhere in the country....if youíre going to be around people.

As far as the governor cancelling events, if you book a room at a B&B and the rally is cancelled your room is not.  No one could stop you from going for a ride with your friends....who also happened to travel to the area and are staying in motels, inns or B&Bís.  Having said that, unless thereís an enormous outbreak thereís no way Sununu will close down the state again.  Thereís no appetite for it politically or financially.  None.  Book a campsite and go to the rally if youíve been vaccinated and want to attend.

Randy said that he's planning on about 500 attendees.  Historically that's right for the MGNOC National Rally if in IA or KS.  East of the Rockies and West of the Appalachian Mountain range.  For this rally with another variable...- 19.  Most will come from the eastern states, SE to NE.  Some will come from the West Coast.  The number will be near 400.  Second largest event has been the WI state rally with the beer truck and brats at Camp Joy.  300-350 attendees.  I always miss that for some reason.   :embarrassed:

As others have said, you donít have a lot of options for a ďgoodĒ route.  Yours is more of a grin and bear it, two day slog unless you want to add a day and wander around upstate NY.  70, 71 and then 90 is the quickest.  Think of it as ripping off a bandaid.

In NY you can take 20 across to 63 in Amsterdam.  take that to 9N and then 63 again in VT.  You'll be about 1/2 hour north of Bennington, VT.
Take 9E to Keene.

If coming into NY from the south take 17E to 30N and then 9N and 63E.  90E is really boring but it will get you there-you'll still need to take a few secondary roads (easy to see on the map) to get into VT and across to NH-be sure 9E is in there.  The ride over Hogback Mt is worth it and drops you right into Keene.

Superslab or secondary roads?  Either way, no reason to go anywhere near the I95 Corridor to get to Keene.  I've been on 50 from DC to ST Louis, it has some good, very good, and bad spots.  You could take 50 West all the way into West Virginia, then start North East on 219 and other state highways.

Not sure about your definition of Ďgood.í

If youíre looking for the quickest route that wonít leave you in freeway / toll hell like I-95, I tend to make my way toward 84, hopping on around Scranton or Easton area. 84 has no tolls, and passes just north of NYC. You could hop onto Rt 15 in PA, then work your way east either in northern PA or NY.

If you prefer a more scenic route Iím a fan of going north enough to go through the Green Mountains. The mountain towns of Vermont shouldnít be missed if you have the time. Rt 30 around the southwestern portion of PA climbs and rolls through the mountains nicely. Not sure about other roads west of the Appalachians, though.

Frankly 84 has some amazing views through the eastern part of PA, into NY!!  Deep valleys, and hills..  its really a nice ride for a highway. I just updated my room at the Tartan Fox B&B to include Thursday night. The owner said there are at least 3 rally participants staying that weekend including me.

Including you I know that KingofFleece is also staying there.

I did the MapQuest thing to find out their recommended route from the Indy area.  It was I-70 to Columbus, OH, I-71 to Cleveland, from there I-90 to Albany, NY.  After Albany, it was two-lanes across VT and NH to Keene.  An option to I-90, after Erie, PA, was I-86 and I-88 to Albany.  About 900 miles either way.  Ride safe.

Anyone want to suggest a good route from Saint Louis, Missouri ?

If I-84 East is part of your route, then the following may be of some help:

I-84 to Newburgh-Beacon Bridge over the Hudson river.
After approx. 15 miles (after the bridge), take the Taconic Parkway North
Taconic North to Rt 295 (sign-last exit before toll)
RT295 East to Rt22 North
Rt 22 North to Rt 7(NY) East
Rt7 (becomes 9) East to Keene
At Keene RT 9 turns North, you go straight onto Rt12 (sign)
Rt 12 South to Fair Grounds (on right)

Part of the above was suggested by Harry on the NJ forum

I've ridden that route many times, but never after dark. Regarding the Taconic, I do know that there are many NY State troopers playing peek-a-boo in the median.

I almost certainly will not have mine by then. WA state is only doing a mediocre job of dispensing and I am in the last category.
However, I expect most restrictions to be lifted by then. Traveling by Guzzi should be a good way to spend the month of June.

I'm not certain that's true.  My wife and I got our second shot a couple days ago.  Yesterday I saw one of my doctors (different problem) and we discussed when the restrictions were likely to be relaxed.  Her comment was the medical community fully expects the current type of restrictions (masks, distancing, etc) to be in force for much of this calendar year.  Then, also yesterday, I saw that Dr Fauci (sp?) made the comment that he expected us to be wearing masks until 2022, at least.  I don't think they really know at this time but the approach will probably be to err on the side of safety.

Unfortunately that's how some see it and extrapolate their opinions into it.  Exception noted!

Okay......just got off the phone with Randy & Natalie.  They send their "Aloha!".  Pre-registrations are above the last time they did the National Rally.  They still need pre-registrations to help pay for the deposits that are needed to fund the rally.  Same as the same weekend as Laconia down the road.  You can do a 2-fer.  One visit to a large HD ally and you'll like a Moto Guzzi rally.

Menu not set but the caterer needs the number to plan for the meals.  Open soda fountain, ice tea & coffee through-out the day.   :thumb:

Tees will be available for purchase commemorating the 100th anniversary of Moto Guzzi.  The Moto Guzzi demo fleet is not 100% in Yet.  They're looking at Americade instead which should be move to the Fall.  That's on another thread.

For pre-registrations, there will be some souvenir goodies and give-aways.

They will be doing a "Shave a day" fund raiser.  A barber will on-site to shave beards off to raise funds for a local charity.  Randy said that he's growing a beard for this event.     I asked if he would do haircuts too.  He said that "Yeah....he could shave your head too."  "uh......maybe not."

For you foodies, as mentioned earlier, there are a lot of restaurants in the area of every type of cuisine that you can imagine.  I haven't checked for Ethiopian or Middle Easter but I wouldn't be surprised.  Local supermarkets have live lobsters and will steam them for your picnic.   :thumb:

There is an American Legion Post in Keene and very active bar/restaurant w/live band.  Cheap eats/ drinks   :thumb:    https://www.facebook.com/ALPost4Keene

There's also a VFW post in Keene.  https://www.facebook.com/pg/VFW-Post-799-155945464430355/events/?ref=page_internal.

Other two-up couples are definitely still in the running.
If former WA state rep Dick Guthrie and his wife come, they live 3 miles west of me. They are undecided.

At this time i plan on riding my 1976 Convert , but I'm working my ass off to recommission a 1972 Eldo which is the bike I really want to ride to the rally.

The Eldo is new to me and it was purchased from a friends Estate.

I'm in the process of making  it a tribute bike for his family but basically making minimal changes to suit my needs.

Time is short to complete this project but it's a possible / maybe to make it happen.

That was stage 1 cattle call.  I'm in stage 2 of "report for duty" and voir dire for the case that is going to a jury trial.  I might fall out of that because of law enforcement family, working with ex-offenders and judicial participation. Bummer Bulldog!

I showed for Jury Duty yesterday.  I sat there while they're going through the potential jurors.  We break for lunch after we come back maybe 20 minutes later we get notified that we're dismissed and to report May 9th.  There might be a plea agreement.  We're still on till there is a formal agreement.

Yeah, it's just timing. Unfortunately I'm totally slammed at work through Saturday. I could launch on sunday, but I would be getting up too late for the rally.

As I put on ADV, I'm planning a 1 week trip starting the Monday after Father's Day. Plan is to head West into Virginia then up through Pennsylvania to New York and across New York to Connecticut and down to Bridgeport to catch the ferry to Long Island the following Saturday for my niece's high School graduation.

If I remember you were somewhere in upstate New York so if you're going to be around Monday or Tuesday save some of that bourbon for me.. I haven't talked to bill yet I'm thinking of linking up with him and heading up to another friend's house in Holidayberg Pennsylvania, then coudersport to see an army friend and up to the Erie or Buffalo area before I head east.

But on my ticket though, I can't remember who is running the event but if you want to put mine aside as a gift to someone please do or if anyone wants to claim mine it's up for the taking just send me a PM. Otherwise consider it a donation and I definitely want a T-shirt and bumper sticker or sticker if they're available :-)

Just cleared post-- isolation. Doc says not to even consider a - for 90-120 days as my natural immunity will easily cover things. Also said that 'science' is still looking to understand if post-- people remain vulnerable and will even need a shot.

So many opinions but he said I'm clear for June and to have fun.

Latest info from Randy & Natalie.  People are pre-registering for the rally from all over the US.  The food and tees haven't been ordered yet.  Best to pre-register & order tees then.  All sizes and colors available.  Check the thread for the details.

One variable for me is the jury summons got pushed back to the end of May.   :embarrassed:  Another factor is that I know the Judge from previous work and she knows the programs that I worked on.  I can't give incorrect answers during voir dire.  Can you say "contempt of court"?

I would think that knowing the judge would get you excused. I got excused from a civil case because I knew one of the attorneys and the "expert witness".

At least then you can sit around the camp fire swatting flies, swapping lies(firing the odd shot here and there)and enjoying some bourbon, cigars and good company and regaling us with horror stories  about surviving winters in Western NY.

Really? Tell me it isn't true.  A few years ago, they contacted Mark at MG Classics and asked if he could bring some old Guzzis to a big dog and pony show. Of course, Mark being Mark said, sure and jumped through several hoops to put on a great display.

I've been going to and hosting Guzzi rallies for 50 years. This is my input.
The part time participants become a nightmare for registration with "I don't like chicken so I wont be eating. I don't drink coffee. I don't camp." All the reasons not to pay the full price.

I'm not going to tell you what Randy payed for the facility and all the other expenses involved in hosting a rally. Do you go to a nudist camp and say you just want "to look around".?

And then you have some riders that arrive late Sat and still pay the full price as one said, "it is not your fault I got here late" I've heard others brag that they got a discount by only saying they'd be for one day and then staying all three.

At almost all generic rallies you pay at the gate and then go in and look around for the duration or a few minutes. Guzzi rallies are open so the weasels and skin flints can come in without paying. It doesn't happen often, but I guess you can build your stock portfolio by not paying to enter a rally.

Randy is the rally organizer. He has the final say on registration.

Tex

Thanks a Lot. Not really a rally kind of guy. Just thought it would be neat seeing some other guzzis since there's not many around. Guess I'll skip this event .... don't want to upset anyone. Good Venue though ... used to go to the steam engine show they used to have there. I guess I'll head to the track instead for my day off.

My friend and I are paying the full price for the 3 days and yet we are not camping ,we will be there for all other parts of the event , we did not ask for a discount because of no camping, we are paying full price.
Randy has expenses ,he can take the money that we would normally used for the camping side of things and apply it to whatever expenses he has , my friend and I are both happy and are willing to do this so, I'm  going to enjoy the event even though I'm going to miss the after-hours nighttime activities .

Got off the phone with Randy.  He says you're welcomed to come.  He got in a number of more registrations.  Nothing to release for the menu yet or the number of pre-registered participants.

Summer travel started this weekend and it seems real nuts.

How about name tags? User name and first name so we can know who we're talking to w/o asking and organizers can know who registered. Or use your checklist once to hand out a tag someone can fill in.

Randy said that he's planning on about 400 participants but he needs all that can pre-register to do so.  He had to lay out deposits for catering, fairgrounds & security 😳 (new requirement) etc.  We had a good laugh over a deposit for the local fire department.  I think that finally got waived.  🤦‍♂️

May not work.  3 nametags/day x 300+ = 900+ tags.  A list, yes for the dinner crowd w/ID check.

Any one want to do an all day ride on Friday???  Go west on Rte. 9 into VT, South on Rte. 8 to Mass.  Climb Mt;. Greylock - the highest mtn on Mass. on a New deal road, descend to Lanesborough, head north on rte 7.  Take Petersburgh pass Rte. 2 to NY then turn up rte. 22 to Cambridge NY and ride up rte 313  (the Battenkill River)  to Arlington.  Then take the Mt. Equinox toll road to the top. $20.  (2nd tallest Mtn in VT - they used to car race up it) then head back towards Brattleboro, but cut off over the Stratton Mt. access road, to the town of Stratton, down Rte 100 past Mt. Snow, and cut onto Auger Hole Rd. (I think) to Williamsville (rte 30 is boring) and get a covered bridge, come out on rte 30, and get another covered bridge in Dummerston, & over to North end of Brattleboro, and back to camp for dinner.  All day Saturday to hang out.

If someone's got a similar route in NH, I'm game for that.  I lived in Southern VT for about 15 years - 25 years ago, so this route came to my head once I knew about the rally.  I'll be there Thursday and want to leave Friday by 9.  Picture is on the way up to summit of Greylock.

Gerry, I don't know I missed you but I hate that I did. Dirk, you may be on to something...

Sarah

Well, you'll have to post up a pic of yourselves so I can see if I did meet you.

If you did stop by in the moto garage to pick up a t-shirt or sign up for a demo ride I most likely was around unless I was running an errand for Jim.

I do not remember seeing a V9 at the rally.

Gerry

I am still telling people about this rally, one week later.  Maybe it's the sense of adventure suggested by the bike/tent pairs.  Well, back to reality now.

Me too! What a cool gathering, eh?! You must have snapped those pics Thursday or Friday, I didn't roll in until late Friday, camped over by that little foot bridge.

Definitely looking forward to catching some other rallies!

Very nice! Looks like a good time was had by all. I aspire to be able to take the time to go to these things after my life (kids/wife/parents/work) are able to function on their own or no longer require me to be involved.
Would need to do some test runs on the V7III for motocamping, maybe south Alabama or Georgia---

Todd-- Was that you on the nice Milano?  Doug and I stopped by and we chatted a little.

gerryp-- You may not have recognized the V9, we've outfitted it with a V7 tank.

Ah, yes, Sarah! I remember talking to you two! Pretty sure Doug has a new V85-TT, we were talking a bit about mapping, exhaust, etc? I never got to see your bikes, didn't realize that you had a V7 tank on a V9, that is EXACTLY what I would do. I couldn't take a guess how many Geese I saw over those few days, but I didn't catch a glimpse of a single V9, to my knowledge. A little bit surprising. It frankly makes me want to grab a ride on one. Especially after reading several posts from Kevin here extolling the the virtues of that V9 motor.
Hoping to see more of you all at future rallies! I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist that you all wear name tags...sorry...😁

A pic before taking off from VT. First ever moto-camping trip for the Milano, AND for me. I did ok not over-packing, mostly, except for that stupid garbage bag there with my leather jacket in it. Couldn't make up my mind on the leather or the mesh, so brought both.

This was a great rally for first timers.  Theyíre usually much smaller, with 30-100 attendees.  Hopefully the rally bug bit you, itís fun and you make life long friends.

After rally post.  Settling in to being back into Hawaii.  Making plans for Datil, NM.  Long flight Honolulu to Boston and back.  Like going to Europe from the West Coast.  2 flights and I can be anywhere in the world.

Randy will be submitting an article for the MGNOC newsletter with details of the rally.  Most that attendees are from the NE.  An anecdotal observation is that he MGNOC National Rally is more of a large regional rally.  Rumors are that that someone has volunteered to sponsor it next year.

A lot of first time Moto Guzzi owners showed up and a lot of first time rally goers too.  Hopefully they will want to go to state rallies to expand their horizons and maybe next year's National.   :thumb:

Well I for one am looking forward to attending more of these! Would love to be in position to make a trip to New Mexico, and other long-distance rallies, but likely will end up staying regional this season. Here's a shot showing some of the very cool bling from the Nat!

Randy said that he saved about 400 $2 bills for the rally.
