Title: Oil Drain Pan for Car Oil Changes

Are there any truly good pans to collect oil when changing a car's oil?

All my life I've suffered from fragile pans that warp and bend, and to add insult will drip oil when transferring to another container.
I'm tired of the plastic dreck out there, and am willing to pay for quality (unusual on a Guzzi site, eh?).

A catch can doesn't need to be purpose-built.  I get a large, shallow, metal baking pan from the junk store if I don't have one lying around.  The square ones have nice corners to pour from.  My neighbor uses a wok.

I also like the square/rectangle pans.

A while ago I had one for cars made by Rubbermaid.  It had a spot to put the oil filter so it would drain and a spout to pour everything out.  I've had it for at least 20 years so don't remember where I got it.

My apologies in advance for the thread-jack. . .

I got a wild hair to try one of those topside oil pumps - not the vacuum type - this is a 12v electric pump with a tube that goes down the dipstick pipe.  I was very skeptical until it pumped out the exact amount for each of our vehicles - 2 Fiats and a 5-Series BMW.  I pumped the spare oil right into recycling jugs.  Last time I went under the pan my parking slot looked like a crime scene.  Every time the wind would gust there'd be a trail of spray.  $12.50 delivered (guzzi content).  I wanted to experience, just once, not writhing around on the ground getting hot oil all down my sleeve running all over the ground or sloshing out of the catch pan.  I did the oil & air filters while the little pump buzzed along happily.  Quickest/cleanest oil & filter changes I can remember pulling off.  Our community frowns on working on vehicles, so this had the added stealth benefit of not having to get everything up on ramps.

Rodkyll and Charlie,
I've tried the square baking pans, and I seldom get a good pour into the oil jug.
I'm leaning towards the plastic pans with a built in nozzle (see below), but they still seem so cheap that there must be a quality version.

I get Valvoline oil for the diesel; comes in a 10 litre rectangular plastic container. Neatly cut the side out of it with a slitting disk on the angle grinder et voila, the perfect indestructible oil pan!. :thumb: That has to classify as Guzzi content. :wink:

I like that price.  Very Guzzi-ish.
