Clutch Timing Marks ?? NGC
« on: August 12, 2022, 06:03:08 PM »
Has anyone seem clutch basket timing marks to align with the primary gear? This is off a mid 60's Benelli 250 egg motor (4 stroke single)

The crank to cam gears have the typical timing marks

Manual makes no mention of timing the clutch basket but its straight forward to align, just wondering if anyone has seen this and a reason why?

Is the ignition or tachometer run off of one or the other?

Could be that it shakes less. Rotating mass counter acts rotating mass, just a guess. I just want to fix the moped, ha ha. Back to work.

Machined gear sets matched with marks to run better?, quieter?, longer?  Not something I've on small motorcycle engines.  But easy enough to line up and play along.

Perhaps the marks on the clutch basket have nothing to do with the primary gear, but are for assembly of the clutch. Does the clutch basket cover (pressure plate) have marks?

The bike has a magneto running off the crank shaft. There are no marks on the pressure plate.
Still a mystery…..

Perhaps they thought "why not have marks, it will get put back in the same place then, that can't hurt"
At the very least it causes you to be more careful eh!
