2 random questions (plastic trim and cable keepers)
(1/1)
nwguy:
Before I started taking pictures before dismantling things on my 1999 Bassa renovation I didn't document how the cable keepers near the triple crown are installed. Can someone send me pictures of yours? And are yours symmetric? One of mine seems pretty bent.
Also, anyone have a clever way to glue the edge trim onto fuel tanks and body parts if you've pulled it loose? Crazy glue in the slot?
John A:
I think the cable keepers bolt on the top side bolts on the triple tree, windshield also bolted there. For glue I use Goop dries fast, sticks well, clear . There’s a bunch of different ones, I’d use marine or automotive

That's what I suspected, but I'm not getting their orientation. Was hoping to see a close up pic or two.
How do you apply the Goop? If put put it on the edge of the metal then put on the plastic it'll smear glue onto the surface of the tank/body part. Do you put it only on the back side of the tank/body part edge?

I have used contact cement, applied with a Q tip, or small modeler's paint brush, to the inside of the rubber trim.

I just put it on the edge of the tank, mostly on the inside so it doesn’t squeeze out and look horrible.Doesn’t take much, I start at the front in the middle if it’s all the way off. It skins over fairly quickly so do it in sections and hold it until it grabs . It flows until it sets up. To remove it, wait until it dries and rub it off with your fingers. I like to put a dot of it on plastic light lense hold down screws so they don’t vibrate out, just a dot on the edge of the screw. It doesn’t interact with the plastic. The cable stays just go on the bolts and the loop goes around the cables. They can be massaged to look nice , it’s only stainless wire.
