Pretty smooth really, a touch of branch makes it taste really nice. Like sweet grain.

My favorite so far is Eagle Rare (another Sazerac / Buffalo Trace Distillery brand).

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this simply "Old Charter" 80 proof, re-branded and aged for less time (hence the higher proof)?

http://www.bourbonenthusiast.com/forum/DBvd.php?id=359&task=displaybottling

Interesting that it is not listed on the Buffalo Trace web site.

Well, I am always up for trying a new bourbon.  I will look for it next time I'm shopping for more.  Thanks for the tip.

Yep, Sam's club has it for 14 bux a liter ;-T (Guzzi content)  ;D Add a little water, and it tastes a lot like Buffalo Trace, one of my favorites. Has that hint of vanilla that is a Buffalo Trace trademark.

A buddy gave me this bottle, he got it @ Sams too. It's really nice for the price and not really like the 80 proof version.

damn,  I wish Sam's sold booze here

I wish at Moto GP at Indy a few years ago and went to Sam's I'll be doggone if I didn't pick up Johnny Walker for about 1/3 less than the package store by the track.  On the other side, in Virginia you go to in State Store that looks like a post office.

Sorry I only imbibe for medicinal purposes.  Right now my right forearm is killing me/keeping me up nights because I "stretched" a tendon doing an odd fingertip box lift.  You had to be there.

I always seem to have something painfully wrong with me.  Maybe it's a Construction Worker thing, maybe it's a California thing.             :beat_horse

So I keep it cheap and $14 per liter is good.  Thanks I'll give it a try.

One thing I learned as a Bartender was after the first shot most people have no ideal what their drinking.  Also that you can pass off cheap Vodka strawberry daiquiris, cheap Tequila strawberry daiquiris, cheap Bourbon strawberry daiquiris, cheap Scotch strawberry daiquiris as Rum strawberry daiquiris after the first drink and the Customer won't notice.  A trouble customer that didn't end well --- for the customer.

Funny thing (Guzzi content here) is after commuting on my Griso I find I need less "medicine" most nights and my back isn't giving me as much trouble.             :bike

$14/liter ??   :o

I usually keep a bottle of Bulleit Bourbon (6 year), and sometimes the Bulleit Bourbon (10-year).

Sometimes a bottle of Woodford Reserve and/or Elijah Craig can be found in the cabinet.

I don't think $14 will buy a pint of any of them, though...

The last time I was out in SoCal, Costco had Bulleit for $22.  ;-T It's another one of my favorites, although bourbon=bourbon..  ;D Kinda.

I would like to add W.H. Harrison Governors reserve to the list. I'll bet most have never tried and I think this whiskey has a splendid flavor.

I will admit to never having tried Charter 101 but it will be my next bottle. Thanks for the suggestion. I am also new to Grappa and will be locating a bottle of that in the near future for a tasting or paint removal lol.

If I had to pick a número uno favorite wise-guy (whiskey) it would prolly be the bulliet rye. But I like to throw the old tasebuds a curve now and then. I do like the taste of this 101 old car starter. I used to drink the 80 proof with water all the time at a local bar called the cat and the fiddle
