What to do in Richmond, Va
« on: June 18, 2022, 10:20:13 PM »
Work sent me to Richmond, Va for two weeks.  Any noteworthy cycle stuff down here?
Anything else I must see?
What local foods should I seek out?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

Drive an hour west on 64 to Charlottesville and check out Monticello and UVa’s Central grounds.  Absolutely worth the trip.  Another 20 minutes west will get you to the Skyline Drive/ Blue Ridge Parkway.

When ever I hit that area of VA I always take a little jog east , less then a hour unless traffic is bad, and hit up Pierce's Pit BBq in Williamsburg. Little place, but awesome food!

Scout, ah Monticello.  That's Jefferson's estate, right.  Thanks for that.

S1120, you are right, I've got to get some BBQ while I'm down here.  I'm from New England, and barbeque isn't common up north.

Used to be a stroll down Monument Avenue was worth a nice afternoon’s venture - but, alas, I understand no more.
Altho the architecture of the old homes is still extant.

Yes, browse at Moto Richmond, and do a test ride on something if you want there. They’re good about that. The poem museum is small but interesting, for an hour and a half or so activity.

Sidecar - I love foreign pastries.  I'm definitely hitting that spot.  Thx for clueing me in.

Majsteve  and Ironcross - thx for idea re Moto RIchmond.  That's what I'm looking for.  It'll be fun.

Perazzi - every now and then I smoke a pipe or cigar.  It'll be interesting to visit Phil Morris, just to say I've been there.  As a youth I worked on a Conn. tobacco farm.

Wrbix - The "good" old structures are not in the part of town I'm working, but thanks for the idea.  I'll venture out.

Dave,

Thanks for remembering me.  Yes - a little work, and some motorcycling too!  Idk if I can arrange another Ital Bike day.   Just a busy summer and all.  Would like to get up north to you again.

They are an awesome place to lunch! My old work van had a fridge/freezer in it. When I went there, I'd load up stuff to take home. Takes me 2 hours to drive there, so it is a haul. They are similar to Azar's in VA Beach! But with even more groceries.

It’s the East Coast’s best-kept secret: great food, excellent beer industry, wonderful art and history museums, outdoor things galore, and a wonderful shop at Moto Richmond. Tell Chelsea and Erica I sent ya!
