Removing the front fender on a V7 Cafe
« on: January 17, 2013, 11:35:39 AM »
I am replacing the front fender on my Cafe with an aftermarket one.

I remember reading a post by a forum member where he was having trouble freeing a Cafe fender after removing the fasteners.

Another member described how to release the fender.

I have searched for the op but I am drawing blanks.

Can anyone point me to the op or shed some light on how to free up the unfastened fender?  ???

Thanks!

Hit the thing w/rubber mallet

I don't think that was the recommended solution ;)

Did OP sort this? Having same prob. Does it need jacking to take weight off front forks or did the mallet work?!

Put your V7 on its center stand.

Put your small scissor-jack under the oil sump with a block of wood between the jack and the bottom of your bike.

Remove the front brake caliper and suspend it from the front of the frame somewhere using an old bungee cord. Be sure to stick something (not cardboard) between the brake pucks so it doesn't close accidentally. I use a thin piece of wood. Hold that in place with rubber bands or similar.

Loosen the front axle and the fasteners holding the fender mount / fork brace.

Using the scissor jack, raise the front wheel until it's off the ground by half an inch or so.

Remove the front wheel.

Remove the fasteners holding the fork brace.

Turn one (or both) of the lower fork tubes - the sliders - by 180 degrees to swing the mounting tabs out of the way.

Gently push the fork brace down on one side so it can be removed.

The fender mounting screws are now easily accessible on the underside the fork brace.

All usual safety tips apply.

Thanks MRLost. No centre stand on my bike but I can work around. Pain that entire front wheel has to come off.

New first and second steps:

Purchase center stand.

Install center stand.

Nah, but longer than not taking it off for sure.
