Can't help you with the fuel gauge caper but I've been riding two wheelers for a bit and if I had to choose between a fuel gauge and a trip mileage function, the trip meter would win hands down.So if you have the trip function I wouldn't go for a gauge.I prefer it by far.:-)
That little black button below your red flasher button should cycle through several guage settings clock, temp, odometer. Does on Brevas anyway.Brian

Of course you can just open the cap and peer inside, shake the bike to see if you can see it sloshing around, you might even have a calibrated stick.
Tripmeter is right there Push the bar once to get the tripmeter mileagePush and hold for longer than you think you should and it resets to zero milesPush again for temperature..keep pushing for total miles I’m getting 50ish miles per gallon on my Nevada 125 miles or so to the low gas amber and warning light, with 1 gallon/50miles left in reserve I always top up and reset the tripmeter
