I don't know if it will work with the Maverick-  but I took the gate off my Tacoma and added some 1/2" L inside (bolted across the lift gate) to stiffen it up.  I don't know that I've put 700# on it (I know I haven't), but it helped some.

That is a good idea too. I suppose I could just get one of those trailer rails, like they use on the basic bike trailers from the old days, and fasten that down to the bed, so really a minimal load actually being placed on the liftgate. My apologies for going off topic on the OPs post.........really like the new truck!

Who writes these articles?  The El Camino had a 25 year production run in the states and was make up until a few years ago in Australia as the Holden Commodore UTE.  The Subaru Brat ran 15 years.
I guess it wouldn't have been much of a story if they only mentioned the Volkswagon and the Dodge Rampage.

Plus, they are comparing a new crew cab vehicle to diminutive two seaters.

The dimensions of the new Maverick are 200″ L x 73″ W x 69″ H

The 2004 Chevy S10 crew cab dimensions are 205″ L x 68″ W x 63″ H

The 2010 Explorer Sport Trac dimensions are 210″ L x 74″ W x 72″ H

The 2020 Nissan Frontier crew cab dimensions are 205.5" L x 72.8" W x 70.1" H.

The new Maverick is not that diminutive.

When I retire I need to start writing articles.  Just make something up that gets enough views and ad revenue.  LOL!

I got that wrong, there is a coil but it's not a big one. I'll bet the aftermarket will make stuff for that.

Noted, thanks.

Though same point on limitations and automatic adjustment.

But now you've got me wondering how much adjustment is manually possible and if it wouldn't be enough to make carrying a bike feasible off a hitch carrier. Though I still isn't to think it's too past spec.

Last edit really -

Looks like it has different rear suspensions based on whether or not it's FWD or AWD. Some are a type of coil spring.

That seems like a variable rate spring, perhaps with a different twist (see what I did there?).

 well said!

Seems most 'magazine reviews' (on-line or print) are lacking in research and read like an op-ed.

Going on month two with mine.  XL, no frills version other than tow package and AWD.  Loving it so far, other than the stock tires which absolutely suck.  I have a 27 mile commute, averaging 28mpg so long as I don't let it warm up for 10 minutes.

Looks nice!  I do kinda like the new Maverick. I think its much nicer looking then Honda ridgeline. Im on a lot of truck groups, and its funny seeing the guys talk about it.. "Get a super duty because it can tow better"  "you cant hold much gravel in that bed"..  Ahh... ya you do know most truck on the road are just used for carrying a few bags of trash to the dump, and maybe some top soil and fert bags for the lawn right. Enjoy the new wheels!!  I hope it serves you well.

Going into week two with mine now. Loving the utility and functionality of it. More than adequate power, good economy and good handling. Not a fan of the bar graph gages for fuel and temp. But that is what the 6" display of the FX4 package gets you.
Getting the bed Line-X'd next week. Found out the hard way how soft the water based paint in the finish is. I even tired the load down. But pulling it out left a long mark. So Line-X will be money well spent.
Yeah, it not a "real" truck. So what? For light duties that I need, it is perfect. And its a lot more pleasant to drive and live with than my last full sized Ram1500 was. Its ability to U turn is worth it! Its a mid sized car with a small truck bed. That is a great combo if it is what you need!
yeah, I might be addicted to brake fluid. But I can stop any time I want.

Glad you are liking it. I'm trying to talk SWMBO into replacing her current car with one, and to have fun ordering one. She destroys the back of her wagons and hatch backs, and I think the hybrid would be perfect for her.  So far she went from "I DONT want a truck" to "That is kinda cute" I think for a lifestyle truck without the tow and load needs from a full size this is about perfect, and is on a mostly proven chassis.

The new OEM paints, especially from Ford, Toyota, and GM really are terrible. I had my Mustang Ceramic coated which has helped, but it is garbage. I'm thinking of saving my pennies to get the whole car wrapped in that clear membrane next spring.

Remember that those membranes are just plastic sheet too and easily get damaged. Even my dealer warned me that the paints have no hardeners and to hold off applying a really good finish for a bit. So I will wait a month or so and then apply the Adams graphene ceramic coat that I like. I already treated all the plastic trims. IME doing it to the finish on my Wife's car, it is a pretty amazing product. Well worth the work.

Downhill coasting, sure!
But mine is a 2.0 ecoboost with AWD, not the hybrid model with FWD. The hybrid will get 42 mpg city. So far mine shows 34 mpg hiway and about 27 mpg in mixed driving. Its rated at 20 city, 25 mixed and 29 hiway, so I am pleased with it.

Spent this morning at the local Line X shop getting the bed done. Took them an hour longer than expected as the bed may be short, but it is very busy with stuff that needs removed and, or masked off to do the job well on it. Very pleased with the work they did! Took it home and put the bed cover back on. All done now. (I removed the cover the other day to make it easier for them to do a good job on it.) Comes off in 5 minutes and back on in ten.

To be fair, I have the bed cover half on in that pic. Makes the bed look even shorter.

I hope they come out with a full electric version. It would be interesting if someone designed a "portable" battery pack for the bed. Something that weighs 150lbs or so.... two person lift. It could give extended range if you're planning a longer trip like a two week vacation road trip. Use it when you want to..... take it out when you don't.

I only use it to go to the lumber yard, mulch etc.  The gas gauge isn't working very well and I'm too lazy to fix it so I make sure to put gas in it on every trip.

Yeah, when not doing yard work with it, you take the Mrs's to church on Sundays and do only seven quarters of miles in a week at time.

Ran an errand today to get a 4 x 8 trailer kit at Northern Tool. The trailer comes in three heavy boxes. The axle box was longest and it had to sit diagonally in the bed. I was impressed it all did fit in the bed and I could close the tailgate! Not bad for a toy truck! About 300# load. Driving home we both noticed how that load made the truck ride much better at the rear. Normally it rides like a cross between a truck and a car. Not too harsh, but firm and well controlled back there. That few hundred weight really smoothed it out!
Makes me think it'll be great on road trips with some great in it. Soon I'll have a nice toy trailer for my toy truck! ;-)

I think EV campers will become a thing. They are self-powered and can help the EV tow vehicle and extend range. They have the ability to move without the tow vehicle when parking or setting up camp. They have a lot of surface area for solar panels for charging. I don't know too much about them yet but they sure look interesting. Nice to have them integrated into the EV tow vehicle. By the time I'm ready for one, about 4 years, they should be pretty well vetted. The Maverick is a great candidate for me but the new Chevy Silverado EV looks interesting. It might be a size in between the Ford Lightening and Maverick.

Don’t remember the last time I stepped into a church, and sometimes the car sits for weeks in the garage. Hardly ever drive it in the summer as the AC doesn’t work and when it did work it really wasn’t very good. I mistakenly installed headers on the engine when it was rebuilt and it dumps lots of hot air into the cabin.  I would have to pull the engine again to remove the headers and I don’t feel like doing that either. Even installed Dynamat on the entire floor and firewall but it doesn’t stop the heat.

Yeah, it’s a cream puff.
