Alright I had my V85 about 3 months 9000 miles. about 50 mile ago I thought I got water in my fuel, it was hard to start wouldn’t stay running had to restart it. Now runners pretty good but not right, just ideal right from 1100 to 1500 rpm hot or cold. At40 mph it seams like it engine is surging. Put fresh (92 oct.) gas + some sea foam, then took to freeway 85 mph( everyone passed me) run really good. Just starting seams like it cold all the time and the 30 to 40 mph rang just doesn’t seam right. I think I need to ride it to the dealer(250 miles) and get him to put the computer on it. I thinking I want to ride to Tn. to ralley next month but don’t want to sit on the side of road. Dose any on have a ideal what’s wrong?Rudy

Curious if it might be an O2 sensor. If they water gets into one, they can cause unexpected surging or sputtering. Have you checked your plugs recently?

What does Guzzidiag say..?
Has the 7SM thrown any codes ?

About a week ago I got check engine lite on a short ride. When I stared it again no lite. No I have not check plug’s.Rudy

This is a bit left field, but I had a similar problem with a Breva 1100. Turned out the drain in the top of the tank under the fuel cap was blocked. When I washed the bike (this was in Southern California where it never rains :grin:) I found water was getting past the cap and accumulating under the cap eventually getting into the fuel tank and creating the misfiring.
The drain was completely blocked, I used a short piece of speedo drive cable on the end of an electric drill to clear it. Never happened again.

Tomorrow I will try gas cap. Adjuster the values intake .005mm /.01 mm exhaust, didn’t see much difference. Called, will haul next week. wished I could ride but could be fuel pump or injector, can’t trouble shot over phone.Rudy

That makes good sense KD and I’ve had it myself.
The thing I find perplexing though, is how the water gets past the conical seal on the cap. When I open the cap on my ‘85, I get a short hissing sound as the pressure equalises...
But irregardless (sic), I hope Rudy finds your suggestion successful.

I don't have a V85, but are the the recommended valve adjustments really .005 and .01 mm? Most of the modern Guzzi's I've seen are .10 & .15mm.
I wouldnt think it was the vent/drain if it happens consistently. Perhaps if it happens after a long ride, or while out in the sun, etc where venting would be required. When you open the cap, do you hear air sucking or pushing out? If it were this, the symptom would go away until enough time would pass to develop a vaccum or pressure.
I'd bet that unless you have a loose vacuum line the issue is probably 02 sensor.

I only had two beers before I made the post on my V85 value adjustment. What I did and what I posted was wrong. Just came in from rechecking my value. I knew something wasen’t right when I pulled my feeler garage out and the .10 & .15 mm had been used lately. But it was good to recheck everything. One readjusted, One more time and I will be a expert. And I did try a lose gas cap, no help. Rudy
