You think I would check tire pressure
« on: October 10, 2018, 08:30:08 AM »
last Sunday I went with 6 other bikes for a ride on back roads ,about 120 miles round trip...Mixed group of sport bikes and a few newer Harley baggers...My 96 900 monster was handling like a turd...The bike has newer steering bearings, front suspension work and a new Olhins rear shock...I figured something is drastically wrong.. I got home and later checked the tire pressure,..21 in front instead of recommended 31 minimum...Aired up the tire, good as new... Geez, you might think I would check the air pressure more than once a year....

For the Harley haters....the baggers maintained a decent rate of speed on the curvy back roads...Obviously not like sport bikes on curves or acceleration but better than I expected..They were several "103'S and a 107....

I've got TPMS sensors on one bike so it measures it for me.

On all the others, I check before EVERY ride.   The tire pressure gauge and the compressor hose are hanging right there so it's no trouble to get to so it doesn't discourage checking it.

I don't wash them, but I DO check that pressure.   It'll kill you if you don't watch out ....

I try to check the tire pressure weekly on my riders, but sometimes let it slide a couple of weeks. The worst is my wifes Piaggio BV500. The small diameter wheels (16 and 14) are really sensitive about tire pressure. I just bolted my compressor to the slab outside my shop; Im hoping this will make it easier to keep my tires properly aired up on all my wheeled vehicles/equipment.

I'm guilty as well.  I usually think about tire pressures after en route.
What irks me is that it'll cost me $2.00 for air at the service stations (except for Sheetz - bless their hearts).

I'm trying to get in the habit of checking air, oil, fasteners(AOF).  It could be a thing...

I check all twelve tires on Friday morning.  That's including the ones with TPS (Hubby's idea) because I'm not a trusting soul. :bike-037:

Good reminder for all of us now that Fall is upon us and temps in the morning have dropped. Time to fill with the more expensive Winter Air!

TPS on many vehicles may only trigger when the pressure is below a certain PSI...It can off a few pounds from ideal if that matters..The Monster seems sensitive to tire pressure, my old Triumph, not so much...Most likely due to level of performance....

I carry a kit w/plugs and Co2 cartridges.
Recently purchased a very reasonably priced TPMS for the GRiSO. <$75.
Shows real time pressure and tire temp.
With mllions of tiny O-rings in the tubeless spoked wheels, I'm better ONE of them
eventually lays down on the job..

Mine gives a specific reading for each tire in addition to an alarm.    On our recent trip, when we started the day at 26 degF in Wyoming and ended at 86 degF in Kanab UT, the pressure (which ideally should be 36/42 front/rear) started the day at 33/39 and ended at 39/48, just due to Gay-Lussac ....
