FYI 1400 owners
« on: July 28, 2019, 04:22:35 PM »
I'm not sure if this has been corrected in later editions but, my 1400 California owners manual specs oil change intervals every 6,200  miles or 10,00 KM's

That is until the 18,400 and then it jumps to 28,400
Obviously a typo but thought I would share

Thanks for the heads up!  I usually go by the odometer, every 6k but.....

Also put a borescope into the tank and to my delight saw an all metal fuel filter!

That is something I have wanted to do, but I haven't bought into the needed scope. Having said that, I would be hopeful that mine then also has a metal filter. (Since they rolled down the line together. )

My 1400 owner's manual specs an oil change (with filter) at 4 liters.
That's one liter too many.

And if the blokes who've been servicing have just gone by the book and not checked the level it will of blown a litre or more out of the motor into the airbox and the particulate matter will of clogged up the MAP sensor. That'll throw a code too.

I’ve just got to ask as my curiosity is killing me. What the heck is a “bloke” , that you and Huzo is always referring to?

Really? The 1400 with a filter only holds 3 liters of oil? I wonder why so little oil. My Victory 106 holds a full 5 quarts but only 4.5 get changed with a new filter.

NO. Manual calls for 4.1 L

They are down to under $50 for a fancy one, mid 20's for a cheapo.  The $50 is higher definition, adjustable light and a couple of angled mirrors.  You need a cell phone to use it, and an app (free).  I got the DEPSTECH one from Amazon......

A male person. Not derogatory. Could be a 'Great bloke', could be a 'Useless bloke', or just 'Some bloke' if there is nothing notable about him. If you want to be derogatory there are far more imaginative ways of describing people....

I dunno, the Victory has a shared sump for the engine, transmission, and clutch - but the Guzzi separates the transmission and the (dry) clutch from the crankcase.  Harleys are 3 or 3.5 quarts on an oil change, plus a quart each for the primary chain case (clutch, etc) and the transmission.

NO. Manual calls for 4.1 L

John Henry - you gotta move that decimal point - it's 4.01 L
(according to the book)

On mine, I've discovered that 3.2 L puts it at the full mark or slightly above, after an overnight drain.

Kevin, you are correct! I can't read my own notes. (I had to take off for a couple days so I just looked again.)  I generally make notes of frequently needed info in the front or back of my manuals. I used my good eye  and I had written 4.01 as you suggested. Having said that, I too don't simply dump in the written amount. I do what Pete said and put the amount in that gets me halfway between the low and full marks on the dipstick.
