What Should I Order From Germany?
« on: August 02, 2019, 04:24:12 PM »
I'm placing an order with a scooter shop in Germany for a couple of Italian items (because Italy can't get their businesses to work efficiently ?!).

Shipping is costly, so ... what other items should I add to my order, that we can't get over here?

Dave,

I think I can get her some Italian brake shoes, and a moped tank bag.  How is that?

August is the month the whole of Italy is on holiday. It's rare that anyone there works this month.

Note that Stein Dinse in Germany & TLM in Holland have bulk international rates, around E35 & E40 for up to 25kg. I'd check their Specials/sale sections for discounted items you might be able to use - filter by model V7, Breva, Nevada so as not to be overwhelmed.

Happy shopping,

Thanks Mal,
I won't be expecting anything right away.

Dave,
I got some "shoes" for my snow blower, and told the wife about my new togs.   Well ... we have different priorities when it come to footwear.

Only you know what it is you need.

I placed several orders, via email, with the Agostini shop in Mandello. Never had an issue. The items arrived at my doorstep as quickly as the would have from most dealer in the USA.

Paul,
I'm not worried about the international shipping.  But since it's so expensive, I'd like to get all I can in one swoop.  I.e. what's available over there that I can't get here?  Any weird tools/liquids/etc?

AJ,
If I could order beer, wurst, and buxom German serving girls, they would already be in my order.  The good stuff is always in short supply.

Joe

P.S.  Boston's best German restaurant, Jacob Wirth's, closed recently after 100+ years of business.  Sad, but the new generation just isn't into leather shorts, traditional beer, and sauerkraut.

I buy a bunch of parts from the UK and Germany. The postage isn't too bad and delivery is usually prompt.

Likewise, I got my Matrix rear shocks and front fork cartridges directly from Carpimoto, a major online dealer in Italy.  I didn't have to use a single Italian word! The package took less than 2 weeks to arrive at my door.  Postage was very reasonable (~18 Euros, as I recall) and the prices were about 40% less than dealers in the US were asking.  The only hitch in my purchase was that US customs mis-classified the order as brake parts, which have a steep duty, instead of suspension parts, which have no duty.  It took about a year, but I eventually got my duty $$ back.  My purchase was in January 2017, the duty situation might have changed by now.  Also, if you are paying with a credit card, use one that doesn't charge a 3% foreign transaction fee; many do, many don't.

Sadly, the shipping is pretty high from this vendor, and he appears to be my only option.  (I'm ordering some unique shirts, made years ago).  So that's why I'd like to add other items to my order.  To help compensate for the high shipping.

No one's got any good ideas.  I was thinking of some Italian cycle manuals, but I'm not sure I'd really have much use.
