They're common; they're remarkably efficient overall; but, people often don't pay much attention to them.  When a small town loses its post office, that town will soon be irrelevant.

The style is "Italianate".  Very popular in the 1800s, especially during the last half of the 1800s during the "Victorian Era".

Always pleasing to look at, for some reason!  We have a few old mansions around here done in that style.

Then you'd like the library in Bangalore, India.  You can always tell the buildings in India built during the British era.
