Abusing the Breva 750 South Padre, Rio Grande area
« on: March 27, 2016, 06:04:16 PM »
What a fun weekend. Got done at NAS-CCAD Saturday around 9am so hopped on the Breva and headed south to Port Isabel/South Padre. Yeah, US 77 is about the only game in town until about Raymondsville where I could switch off to some smaller roads. Booked a room on the island, checked in and rode down onto the beach, usual beach stuff, the shipyards. Nothing special. Got up this morning and rode in the fog along the Mexico border as much I could, the old Military highway as much as possible. Miles and miles of dirt now. Rode atop the levee too for a bit. I was totally shocked by just how many border patrol and state police that were watching the border. I mean hundreds. I saw at least 200 plus from Brownsville to Zapata. Plus a bunch of the four wheeler patrols that damn near ran me off one of the dirt roads. As they passed, I could see big donut prints in the gravel a couple miles down so they weren't really "working" But even on the dirt roads, there would be a patrol backed up in some brush. Each cop/squad must be a minimum of 100K per year in $$$. And I only saw a small stretch. Just amazed. I never remember this much riding here 10-15 years ago.
Great weather, Breva does the dirt roads just fine.

Looks real "right" on those gravel roads to me.

Bought a titanium a few weeks ago, swiped it off that. A little trimming for the turn signals and a few other small mods....

Pardon my ignorance, but could you expand upon the info provided on the fairing.  Make, model and any ideas as to where one could be had!!!  Thanks,  Tim

JB,Sorry I'm late to post. Next time go to Boca Chico . It is as far south and east as you can get. Plenty of stop signs and warnings so you don't run into the gulf.

Another interesting place is Los Ebanos as it has a hand drawn ferry crossing the Rio Grande. Beaver has pictures of her pulling the rope.

Hwy 77 is a boring ride. How about hauling a load of cotton by oxen from Laredo to the shipyard in Corpus. TuffTough.
I always say I'll never go back to the Texas Valley again, but, sho nuff there will be something I read about I have to see.

You know where I life and you are always welcome.

Great looking Breva 750 in red (mine is the slower light gray).  A great ride for any use (who needs a KTM?).

Yes, that fairing looks great.  Too bad for the rest of us that it takes buying  Guzzi "titanium" to get one.  Is that what you did?

I like how those bar-end mirrors look.  What brand? Where did you get them?  How much?

Ok, so the little fairing is from a 2003 EV titanium which I posted a photo of in another post. I believe it came with it.
I had to trim some for the turn signals. Also, the bike came with the larger official "Moto Guzzi" windscreen so I used that bracket but had to cut the lower section off. Then drill new holes in the Titanium screen to support it.

Good to hear from you. Yeah, I need to stop by the turnip patch some time sooner than later.
16 from Zapata was less boring.

JB,
I don't know if you are still in Corpus. If you are, take a ride to the ghost town of Indianola. At one time it was the second biggest port in Texas. I visited it one time in January with mild temps and calm waters. Was imagining what it was like to have a hurricane come ashore with little warning.

Hey Tex,
Got done at 1pm on Saturday, hopped on the Breva, rode 100 miles to the Indianola marina, was cool, stopped took a pic or two and rode straight back to Corpus. 200 miles in 3.5 hours, 2 minute picture break!
