Should MGTC be calibrated after a suspension upgrade?
« on: December 05, 2021, 01:14:31 PM »
I know that the traction control on my V7 III should be calibrated for new tires, but should it also be done when suspension components are upgraded?

I would think not, but would like to hear why anyone would think otherwise.
Is it just an on board setup like the V85 ?

My thinking was basically that since the main job of suspension is to keep the tire in touch with the ground, a significant change in suspension might affect the amount of traction the tires can get and impact how the traction control works....but reading through the calibration process, it seems like it just needs to calculate the relative speed of the wheels at a known speed

I don't believe that's necessary, I put a larger than normal back tire on mine that made the speedo error drop from 10% high to almost 0 and didn't notice anything. On the other hand I did have the traction control cutting in one day under acceleration. To my surprise i found the rear tire was very low in air pressure, about 15 PSI so traction control is quite sensitive.

Every time I see this thread I think of this…  which could surely use a suspension upgrade but definitely would not need any electronics calibration.

No need to calibrate. With upgrade rear suspension (EMC) my MGTC is setting in position 2 with no more intrusion.
