Engine tear down with a surprise
« on: January 24, 2022, 03:27:12 AM »
Finally decided to pull my 850 Eldo off the road to check where my supposed piston slap was coming from and to my surprise the front main bearing had no retainer tube to stop the bearing from turning in its casting , I have personally travelled over 70000 kms in this bike and I purchased it from Power Motors IL some 15 odd years ago  and I have no idea how many mile it had travelled before they obtained it. I tried to turn the bearing by clamping in the vice  and it would not budge, the bearing must be a very firm fit.Talk about good luck , Any one know of one that has had the pin left out and it has turned and destroyed a motor ??.. Your post made me think of Tex, seems like a hundred years ago, saying that a Guzzi will run with so much wrong with  it that it’s a wonder. I thought bad things would happen if that pin was left out.
