Maximum Side Wall Pressure - Conti Road Attack 3 V7
« on: January 08, 2019, 07:09:13 PM »
Okay...for some unknow reason I started thinking about tires.

I am just vaguely recalled my front tire was over-inflated to 40PSI just before in went to a locked down storage location to prevent flat spot.

But I don't know what is the maximum allowable on the tires nor I could find anywhere on the internet?

Can anyone help me???? I want to know if it is a concern before I call the shop.

If it matters, it is a V7 stone.

40 psi isn't going to hurt anything. Honda calls for 36/41 on it's Goldwing.

Are you asking what max inflation pressure is ?Probably 80 PSI , Although leaving it above 50 PSI would seem excessive .

Well, I am asking for the maximum pressure that is written on the side wall of the tire.

Guess I am just being paranoid since I don't have the bike with me right now to check  :embarrassed:

It probably reads at least 50 PSI , relax man . You do understand that a cold tire set at 36 PSI will show 40 PSI warm , right ?

Using the factory recommended tyre pressures have always resulted in feathered and cupped tyres for me - and so I never run less than 40 PSI in any of our motorbike tyres.  And, slightly more in the rear tyres.  Even the tube-type tyres.

hahahahaaa - not sure that I even look at the sidewall, other than to discover the manufacture date and locate the mounting position dot.

The Norge manual calls for 41 rear and 38 front. Seems to work well.

well, "was" concerning about the front as it is "sitting" on the ground while the rest of the bike is on its center stand during storage.

I have taken Dusty's advice and just chill...

it ain't bursting nor leaking...I will just need to remember to air down when the Spring/Summer comes... :boozing: back to beer :P

I doubt that you will have to air down in a few months.  It's much more likely that you will have to add air.  Even tubeless tires tend to lose a bit of pressure over time.  On my Special, with tube type tires, I have to add a bit of air every time I take the bike out....that might be after sitting for a few weeks.  At any rate, just check the pressure before you ride the bike.

You have absolutely nothing to worry about with the tire at 40 psi.    But if you really want something to worry about, reflect about the gases used in inflating the tire.  Did you just use regular air?  Well, that's almost 20% oxygen!   And it could have been humid air.  So you could have slow chemical reactions with the aluminum of the rim with all that reactive oxygen and water.

Maybe you should inflate with pure nitrogen.  Or would argon be better?

No, wait, was the bike stored near any ozone source like electric motors?   Ozone attacks rubber.

I'm kidding.  Don't worry about it.    :boozing:
