ID This Guzzi in Italy?
« on: August 01, 2015, 10:42:50 AM »

Friend of mine was in Italy recently and sent this pic of a Guzzi in his hotel.

I am useless in, among other things, identifying vintage models, but figured someone here knows.

Here's the whole thing.  Don't recall seeing that dark a red before.

Oh, here's where he saw it: http://www.baccoearianna.com/en/

My guess: '38 or '39 Sport 15 "deluxe". The best selling Guzzi of the pre-war era - 5,979 of them were sold. Came in two different shades of amaranth, red painted versions were made but were rare.

Isn't that the model that made the famous "Norge" trip?

Didn't the Norway bike have rear suspension ?

  Dusty

Yes. The "original Norge" was a G.T. (1928-1930) with rear suspension, the later G.T. 16 (1930-1934) was much the same as the Sport 15, only with rear suspension.

Looks an awful lot like my 1932 Sport 15. Except that the one in Italy has been restored. Mine has a whole lot more patina

From what I've read, '37 and before had "backwards" clutch and brake levers - the pivot was out on the end of the bars, the levers pointing inwards. The '38 & '39 had "normal"/more conventional levers.

Mine is missing the "Bowden"" lever which is the decompression lever. Unless they have been changed both my clutch and brake are conventional type.
THis is a picture of mine circa 1990 before I owned it.

Here is a link to the first time we got it running at Road America during vintage race weekend.

Clearly, it's conforming to EU regulations for recycling!
