Pipestem 2016 Pix
« on: October 06, 2016, 10:39:02 AM »
There once was a thread about the 2016 W.V. Guzzi rally.

That got accidentally combined with the Ky. rally thread, and became too complex to unravel.  http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=84934.msg1339662#msg1339662

Then, on return from the rally, Lannis created a thread for pix, etc., http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=86320.0

I started to post this and my pix there, but got ill reading about Marlintons roadkill festival , so here we are with yet another Pipestem thread.  Apologies.  Of a sort.

Anyway, those three days late last and early this week were among the best riding fun ones I can recall.  Great folks, sights, and not inconsequentially roads.  Credit Antietam Charlie for that last. The man's knowledge of great roads in the Appalachian spine is astonishing.

Travman came up to our place dark-early on a wet Friday that would get wetter.  This following two days of heavy rain 4 inches at that point; 5 by time it stopped, with that last inch falling on us nearly all the way to Pipestem.

We then met Charlie at a favorite breakfast place in Wardensville, http://kackaponrestaurant.com.  About the only dry time was while we were eating!

Back on the road, we pretty much followed what planned, i.e., https://goo.gl/maps/oXspzmKK2B72, but pretty much is not irrelevant!

In three days and "only" <800 miles or so, tho 99% on "OMG, I'm gonna die" roads -- we had almost zero traffic and about the same -- thankfully -- law enforcement ... not that we sinned.   :copcar:

The pix tell most of the rest of the story, but the old saw that a picture is worth a thousand words notwithstanding photos simply cannot convey the joy of Guzzis, Guzzisti, grand roads, and the camaraderie that accompanies all of that.

FWIW, Kathi, who is visiting some of our grands in Seattle, approved all content.  :thewife:

Here they are, best viewed in slideshow and full screen modes.

Apologies in advance for forgetting some names.  I am not on any ballot next month, so kissing babies and a knack for names are not my strengths!

Best,

Bill

[Edited to emote about the .  No clue why.  Not in preview.  Sorry.]

Bill, You missed the best meal at High's in Monterey, Virginia. Next time try the fried Rainbow Trout.

Great photos of a most excellent weekend, Bill.

Here are a few of mine:

One "interesting feature" of some of the rooms at the Sandman is an under-sink window with a great view of the river!

@ Cook's Old Mill on WV122

Historical market just south of there.

Bill and Travis at our Droop Mt. Battlefield St. Pk. rest stop

Clouds have rolled back in after lunch at High's. There were a few sprinkles as we headed north on VA42 and wet roads up around Round Hill and Winchester.

I had the fried Rainbow Trout sandwich.  It was delicious.  They said it was locally sourced trout and I believe them since we did see signs for a trout farm outside of town.

The water stays cold and fast running up there so the farm raised fish taste really good.
