Guzzis, Guzzisti ... and Grandkids in Seattle!

Kathi and I sold our (beloved) home in (unbeloved) Atlanta in 2012, and moved to Virginia.

As an Army wife, she'd had little direct choice about where the next home would be, so I thought she should decide where we'd move next and (hopefully, forever) live.

She chose Virginia, narrowed that wide venue to Winchester, and we bought the first house we looked at.  Yes, really, though we did look at about 30 more just to be sure.  Could not be happier.   Well, that is, I couldn't be.

Kathi chose our home based on its proximity to our (then 9, now 13) grandkids, all of whom lived within a few miles of each other and about 100 miles from us in the D.C.-Baltimore metroblob.  Then, one set of four moved to Fort Bragg.  As an Army family, that wasn't, of course, unexpected.  But it did come as a shock when our Great Falls folks moved to Edmonds (Seattle area), Washington this past summer.

Well, you might consider buying stock in Delta or United, as Kathi's already flown out three times in the past four months!

And here we are again, for my first visit to their new home.  Have only been to the PNW twice before, in 1995 and 2006.  Suspect I won't collect as many FF miles as will Kathi, but'll I'll get to know some Boeing tail numbers.

So ... here, if you care, are some pix of the past few days, and the only ones likely to include Guzzis and Guzzisti.

As usual, to see captions, best viewed full screen in "slideshow" mode.

Now, back to getting beaten up by some of the young guns and the puppy lab.

Cool pics!!

The Enfields look like they could be good city, or back road bikes. Not sure of freeway.

A BF109 and a FW190? up there, interesting. What was that dual radial (for the correct word for that engine) cut out out of??

Thanks for sharing!

Tom

Several aircraft used that engine, including the Hellcat exhibited there.  I had no idea that it was such a BIG plane, tho an engine like that is part of why.

One thing the guide said that I thought was interesting was that British engines of the time tended to have way more and smaller fasteners than equivalent U.S. engines.  I asked if that meant they leaked less.  He said no, but that might have been because British engines used silk gaskets, etc.  Not sure about all of that; someone here may know.

Lannis, I like your thinking.

I have been studying their garage with a view toward a "fly-&-leave" so I have a Guzzi out here.

I don't know about silk *gaskets*.. but the standard way to seal the crankcase halves of a small Continental used to be a silk thread on the sealing surfaces.

Bill,

Great pictures as usual!

In the pictures the first shot of the Griso 1200 it looks like it has a flyscreen ? Which I take to be Street / Pete's. is he on the forum here ? I'd like to ask about it

Thanks again to all for comments and suggestions.

I see Ubers in my (possibly immediate) future.    :boozing:

Bill, what kind of sidecar was that?

Yes, it's a gem, Jim.

According to Pete/Street, "DMC Sidecars, Enumclaw, WA built it for me. It's their base model, but I did have them add a brake and a rear luggage rack. The bike is a 2002 California 1100 Stone."

Thanks, "Street" is on the Ghetto, so you might ask him there.  I think he's done a thread or two there on that screen.
