Sorry for your loss. We accept accept the fact that we will likely outlive our fur pal when we bring home that pup or kitten. Sending them on is the last kind thing that we do for them. Always remember, be the human that your dog thinks you are.

Thanks for all the heart felt responses.
Loosing a beloved pet is no different than loosing any other family member. There is a psychological grieving process that’s involve and everyone should make themselves aware of how it works. There are actually 5 steps that psychologist have identified that we humans must go through before and after the loss of a loved one.
Denial is the first and I’ve realized I was there. I realized that when Lisa informed me that Daisy was in kidney failure and would only live a couple months to at the very best close to a year, in my mind I refused to acknowledge that fact. Now I definitely feel the results.
I do realize we’ll work through it and life will go on and hopefully soon we will be able to start enjoying the wonderful memories Daisy gave us during our 14 year love affair with her❤️

Sorry for your loss.  We lost our 13yr old lab Aug 2020....very hard!  She was along for us raising our 2 kids that were 17 & 19 at the time.  Lots of great memories with her!
We weren't getting another dog as we'll be empty nesters in 2 months when my daughter goes off to college....well my daughter leaving is really hitting my wife hard....I was hit hard more when my son went off to college but it's not going to be easy seeing her leave either.  We travel a lot so didn't want the responsibility of a dog.
Well....my wife decided that a puppy would help ease the pain of the empty nest.

Feel for you Dan.
We have a black Labrador, coming up to 3 years old, our first dog.
Why did it take me 6 decades to find this out?

my sincere condolences, Dan, to you and your wife. I recently lost my jack Russell terrier companion of 14 years. Its tough, man, there is no easy way. Its been 2 months and the pain is still there, slowly fading, but it sure leaves an "emptyness" in our soul.
That photo of you, with the banjo, and her in her blanket at your feet says it all. What  love!   :thumb:

If you want to make this old redneck cry like a baby, get me talking about my 1st male standard schnauzer Ike. We went through thick and thin together through a tough time in my life. He was my literally my best friend for the time he was here. Finally I knew when It was time to put him to rest. I wiped a tear on his head and he went to sleep peacefully. I take my boy Max to the same vet. It's still hard to go in that room at the office.

Thanks everyone. It’s been a little easier today. I actually started going through some of her pictures without the intense pain and maybe even some smiles.
I really appreciate all the support and kind words.

True pet owners know that we are not "owners"...just happy to share our lives with furry friend.

Chances are we will outlive them....and we still value our time together.

As you...and we...and many others have found out the last act of kindness  is the hardest.....but necessary.

The body doesn't live forever but memories do...
