Title: SP1000 cafe project
Post by: El Vikingo Tropical on March 05, 2022, 02:24:43 AM
This is my first Guzzi project so I have a lot to learn about the brand, model and what direction to go.
Yesterday I pulled of the standard fork and tested what will be the one for this bike.
I use a CBR900RR 1987 unit as it’s one of the best conventional fork options around, I prefer not use upside down forks at this kind of classic bikes as I feel their looks out of place.
One funny thing I discovered is the CBR unit and the old Guzzi forks use same wheel bolt diameter!

Looks like a nice project!  I used a pair of forks off a Guzzi EV.  Same steering stem and axle.  The forks are longer so a set of Tommaselli adjustable bars clamp on the tops.

Great project. I may be doing just the opposite - reverting a GSXR front ended CX back to stock. Please keep posting.

Well today I tested a set of wire wheels from a California 1000. They need some polishing but will look nice once at place

Overhaul this wheels show up being a bit more difficult then aspected, the spokes nipples was very rusty and impossible to turn, the spokes was also very hard to take out as the wheel centres suffered aluminium oxidation.
I had to cut the spokes, heat with a gas blower and smack them out with the hammer….
Once released from spokes I soda blasted all to prepare for base coat and painting

The wheels have been finished with new (wider) rims and SS spokes.
I have also made by water cutting in oem shape adapters to put on the Yamaha R6 discs improving braking power.

Chassis was raised a bit as I’m not used sitting so low without putting no weight at front wheel

Very nice, what size tire on the rear are you aiming for?

I have ordered from Spanish mainland a set Pirelli Sport Demon
Rear 140 18”
Front 120 18”

It was hard to find this locally, hopefully there will be room enough space between rear tire and swingarm

Did you do the modification to the swinging arm yourself? I've seen this done before but with additional bracing below the arm. Do you think that is necessary on a road bike?

Honestly I don’t have a clue, I did it just in case..
As always I do everything my self at home,
But as this is some terrific heavy swingarm and transmission I’m considering making a new one in lighter material, but is no priority so this will be done as an evolution later on
