Next step ........ wait on some decent weather!
« on: January 14, 2022, 07:02:18 PM »
State8, my local multi-brand dealer. came through on schedule, just as they had on the rest of this transaction.  I received a phone call on Monday morning, letting me know that my new Kawasaki W800 was loaded onto their enclosed trailer, and they could deliver to me as planned.  Bring it on!

I asked previously if they could install an external plug for my Battery Tender.  Answer ...... I'm sure we have a few of the fused ones in stock.  How much to install?  "Bob, it'll take us 10 minutes to install.  Don't worry about it."  And the bike arrived with it installed, ready to be plugged into the Battery Tender.

So far, so good!  The lovely blue 2021 W800 is resting comfortably in my garage on the Battery Tender.  The dealer had filled the tank with Stabilized gasoline, and had done all the pre-delivery stuff.  My Kaw dealer is 10 minutes from home ................. have to say, I'm liking this!

My tasks ...... ?  I need to run down an on-line supplier that has a pair of Givi Monokey pannier mounts, so I can once again reuse the E21 bags I used on the T120.

Pix?  I think you all know what a W800 looks like.  In the event you don't, here's a copy and paste from the Kaw website.

Bob

Sounds like you have a great dealer close by. That and a new bike waiting for a ride - what could be better. How about a picture of it in the garage?

You're gonna have to wait until springtime for a garage photo.  It is currently a pig sty!  Not as bad as some I've seen ..... at least it holds my car, two bikes, and lawn equipment.  Promise .... first good warm day, I'll push her outside and get some good pix!

So where is the challenge?   Guess I will need to wait a few years to achieve your level….

Hey enjoy the feeling and spring is around the corner.    All the best,

Challenge?  Just getting my leg over the saddle!  The hardest part of the whole thing was giving up trying to find the problem in the T120 front end.  Once I decided it was time to quit spending riding time trying to isolate a problem, and go to a new bike, things got easier.

I think this little bike will be just right for me.  If it is half the bike my W650 was over many years and thousands of miles, I'll be one happy guy.

Batten down the hatches!  Some snow on the way, and some really cool temps.

Hey Bob,

Now you gotta update your profile to list the W.

Oh, I guess we got that snow that they'd been glooming & dooming about the last day or so.

Nice bike! I looked at them, and the Royal Enfield twins, but went for the V7III Special when I found out about the Guzzi promo.....made it an easy decision for me. Did you consider a V7? What made you go for the W800? good luck with it!

Gett'n old,  Forgot how to get into my profile and modify it.  Yep, have to show the T120 as sold and the W800 as the new ride!

Anyone want to give me the steps to mod the profile?

I am really taken with the 850cc V7 models.  And I know Enzo's reputation for great support.  At my age, however, I was reluctant to purchase a new bike when the servicing dealer is located well over 200 miles from home.  Had it not been for the distance, well ..... it might have been a V7 instead of a W800 now in the garage.

Other item.  I'd owned a W650 from new in 2000 for (without looking it up) roughly 7 years and 52,000 miles with zero mechanical issues.  And when I did get ass-ended in heavy traffic, State8 (current dealer) had the bike back on the road quickly.  it was only cosmetic (rear fender, license plate mount and tail light ordered from Japan.)  I was impressed with how quickly the dealer AND Kaw were able to respond.

So, that's the main reason for the W800 instead of the Guzzi.  Plus having very fond memories of the W650.
