We aren't talking bands , just that one incandescent guitar player , that person that completely dominates the stage . The reason I always come back to these three is this , while everyone borrows from other players , Mark , TK , and Stevie were somewhat unique , Stevie had a couple of copycats although they faded quickly , Mark and TK , well , no player has even really tried . Sticking to the question at hand it's got to be Mark Knoffler. Widest range of style and song writing abilities. His collaboration with Chet Atkins simply outstanding. Paul B.
Ok , one man and his guitar, Joe Bonamassa.
You said live, sadly SRV is not.
Hum one man and a guitar? Jimi Hendrix. Saw him Keel Auditorium in St. Louis 1969. Oh I just saw the player has to be alive. Oh Well. Hendrix is still alive in my mind. 🎸
Saw Rory Gallagher at a small venue, Lizard's, in Lansing, Michigan in about 1974. I've seen better technically better players live, but Rory came to ROCK. No pyrotechnics, no lasers, just energy and nothing held back.
Nobody listens to Roy Buchanan anymore.
