I'm basically a Cal II kinds guy, but every time I see one of these in person I wish I had it.

Yeah, but I'm near the end for riding at a not all that healthy 72. And I have 3 riders still in my garage.

Looks like the winning bidder didn’t follow through. New auction.

If you're monitoring on-line auctions closely for selling-amount trends, you'll find that this happens more often than you might think.   I've tracked certain bikes on auction sites for some time, and have found that 50% of the bikes of some types come up for auction again by the same guy a week after they were "sold".

So there's 2 levels of caution when monitoring prices.   One is the "Asking" price.   Someone puts up a bike for $15,000, and people say "Have you SEEN what these are going for these days?   Look at THIS one!"

Then it "sells" for $10,000, and people say "Well, that's the real price because it sold for that!"

Then it comes up next week and "sells" for $8,000.   If it doesn't "sell" again, then MAYBE $8,000 was the real price .... ?

I suspect that this happens when a "shill" bidder wins the auction so a "do over" is required!!!

I suspect, like with most unsupervised on-line auctions...the bad behavior of "shill-bidding" happens more than not.    :embarrassed:

Currently @ $3,750...with 5 days left to go...

So the deadbeat bidder forfeits the 5% BaT commission, $450. In this case. They also get “banned” from the site. I’m sure that they could just re register with a new e mail alias, so not really an enforceable rule. In the end, BaT is the only “winner” when this happens. The seller still pays a seller fee.

I suspect that this happens when a "shill" bidder wins the auction so a "do over" is required!!!

I'm going to guess to winning bidder fell through because his source of funding fell through, be it a loan he had hoped for, his wife's savings, his wife's permission  A 5% charge is some pretty steep fee to pay just to be a shill.

Yep, OR he just got excited, wanted to "win", then "buyer's remorse" set in in the cold light of day, and he crawfished ...

I honestly am such a novice on these I should just lurk, but it is such a beauty!
Anyone care to opine what they think this bike should go for?
I realize that anything is worth exactly what somebody is willing to pay for it, but still. Just curious what those of you who really know bikes think.

That is a tough question, as they are a thin market bike, from a thin market bike maker.

Prices are all over the place, but my guess would be around $6000-$7000 for the one being auctioned.

yeah they talk about that a lot more than the Centauro's ability to either increase or decrease the Earth's rotation depending on whether it's headed east or west :)

That just proves to me I will be wise to consult before ever deciding to move on any of these older bikes. I'd bet that it would be easy to overpay. Hell, a sweet paint job on anything old will likely pry an extra grand out of my pocket.

I appreciate your responses, guys. I would like to own a true, or tru-ish, classic one day.

I'm probably qualified to answer on Centauros in general, since I've bought, sold, and ridden a Centauro exactly like that one, but I'm not qualified to answer on BaT auctions, since bikes tend either not to sell, or to sell at stupid prices that are not just 50% more than normal ones but 200% of normal ones.

In the real world, $4500 would be a decent price for that one.   Sixteen thousand miles, and a couple thousand dollars would need to be spent to sort out a couple things on it.   Once that's done, I'd ride one anywhere ... they're easy-to-live with, fast, comfortable sport-tourers.

Great input. Seems like BAT would be a great place to look at a bike I might like to own some day, with the idea I would likely then look elsewhere to find one a bit less expensive/pristine.

Precisely! BaT is a smorgasbord of everything motors, and then some. Classic cars, trucks, slot car tracks, airplanes, obscure  largely unknown vehicles and even a Sherman tank. It’s a interesting place peruse, but rarely are there any good buys.

I would think having it over the Thanksgiving weekend didn't help.
End of November probably didn't help either.

I have to say (and I have one) for a bike that their are only a few hundred of, there never seems to be a shortage of Centauro's for sale and they seem to never sell. I may put up mine for sale in the spring. I think you have to be really get beyond the Guzzi community to sell one.

Interesting last comment ,(and I have one also...), so how would you propose to sell yours?

eBay? Cycle Trader? wildguzzi Classifieds?, BaT? other? - - just curious....
