What a cool looking bike, JJ! I have never seen one of those before. I like it better than the Commandos. Its more along the lines of a "loop". :thumb:

It has the legendary Featherbed frame.   The frame that quickly dominated the racing world when it came out in 1950.   A fine machine.

In 04(?) soon after I moved back to SC, someone nearby in SC advertised a 59 Domi 600 for sale but preferred trade in the classifieds.  Completely original bike, just long parked under a shed.  We struck an even trade for an unrestored, all original very nice with clear title but not running late series Honda 750 SOHC that I had.  He said that he had always wanted one and that was the only thing he would trade for the Norton.  Otherwise, his cash price was ridiculous at the time.

After I loaded the Honda to deliver/trade first thing the next day, I called him to confirm everything.  He said he no longer wanted to do it, even if I added cash. It would have been a great trade. I was really bummed.  That's the only one that I ever had a real chance to get for decent deal.  They're a pretty bike and the wide line frame is the original one that collectors like, even if it isn't as comfortable as the later slimline frames,

Pretty sure he kept the bike at the time.  I thought recently about chasing it down to see if it's still under that shed but really don't need it.

Yes, indeed...the famous and legendary Featherbed frame (both Wide-Line and Slim-Line), made by the Irish McCandless brothers, I believe.

Long before the Commando, THIS was one of the many Norton to own and ride!! :thumb:

I've heard of the Featherbed frame, btbh, that's not a bike I'm familiar with, I was expecting to see a picture of a big single. ala Manx

It's got nice sturdy "manly" lines, seems shorter, with a solid presence, rather than the long lean stance of a comparable Italian bike.

That's quite the pie plate for a front brake

If it's as desirable as it seems to be, from the comments here, I'm very curious as to what the hammer price will be.

Is that a $20k bike or is it one of those, if you have to ask, you can't afford it? lol

These cv times are sure bringing out the nostalgic toys,,, reach for your wallet and the boy toys now while you can  :clock:

I shed a tear this morning on a listing some place, for an old mint Tangerine Orange H2 750 triple

The pretty curved lines of these 1950's Nortons were lost between 1960-66.  The 59 Domi 600 represents the end of that classic Norton era after the similarly-styled single cylinder International models were phased out in 1956/57 depending upon who is asked.  That's why I was so bummed to miss the one I mentioned.  It's such a sleek design and makes for a gorgeous bike to see in person.

The 1960 Dominator tank, trim and badging was completely different and much less attractive to me.  The new design was continued for the USA-only 1961 650 Manxman and then for the Atlas models until their completely new chassis and engine replaced the slimline (late version) Featherbed frame platform by 1969.

The pretty simplified curves came back somewhat with the P11 series tanks for 67-69, which were then repeated  within certain models during the new chassis/ Commando series.

There was some overlap with Matchless at the same time, but that's another story...

I wouldn't expect it to go for much more than $7000 in the US.  Much less than a Commando in similar condition.

In the UK, probably a very different story.
