Yes, plus those fork covers add visual heft as well but those are traditional Eldo styling cues.At the MGX-21 roadshow, we discussed the round vs octagonal headlight. The round headlight will bolt right up to the Eldo headlamp brackets. The only thing is that the Audace round headlamp may look kinda smallish when attached to the Eldorado. I'd like to see someone try it, though.
That's why I'm thinking START with the Audace - just swap the bodywork and foot control from the Eldo over.Mostly it's the rear fender. You could even just use the stock Audace bodywork plus one new rear fender assembly/tail-light etc and have the paint done yourself. Then you could go with red tank and white fenders if you wanted or all red or ....
BUT, the new Eldo has tubeless spoked wheels that I greatly prefer myself. They just look better to me.
Good point on the tire sizes. I remember having the 99 FXDX and 130mm rear, on trying to move up to just 150mm turned out to be a big NO. Required changing swingarm, and more big mods. Now we have 200mm and trying to get back to smaller. I followed a Victory once with a 200mm I believe, on our worn 2 lanes with cambered paths where the trucks wear it out. The rider was constantly fighting the levering of the bike when the big tire rode up on an edge of camber and the contact patch moved from the center of tire to one side. I was having fun watching from immediately behind.I don't like the 16" wheel sizes either, prefer the 18" front on the Audace.
I think the round headlight and uncovered forks makes the bike look 50lbs lighter. **C
Also noticed on the Audace: Smaller turn signals, different handlebars, no instrument shroud, smaller fenders, un-shrouded rear shocks, and smaller mirrors (or just blacked out?).
I'm starting to like the big funky headlamp now. I bet it puts out some light too.
