EV Fork Travel Length.
« on: February 24, 2019, 12:28:11 AM »
I'm trying to find the actual for travel length for my 2004 EV Touring with the adjustable forks.

I looked in the manual and there is nothing for the travel. I did find a sales brochure on line that claimed 5 and something inches.

I tried to find out if this was correct by putting a zip tie loosely on the fork and see how much it slid up the fork. Without  going over an Evil Kneivil jump or off a curb or the like, I only measured about 3 inches or so travel. I have ridden it over some pretty rough city streets, but have never gone through the mother of all potholes, try to avoid those.

So, without removing a fork leg and putting it in a press to find the compressed length, does anyone know what it actually is??

Thank you,
Tom

Guzzi claimed 5.5 inches , guessing it was a bit optimistic .

That agrees with the brochure. I'm also thinking it may be over optimistic.

I'm hoping someone has real world experience with the length.

If this was my loop, I would take a fork spring and compress it until the coils are tight together, I believe this would be the max travel. The EV fork is a bit more complex, at least to me.

Thanks again!

The total travel figure is probably some mythical number based on how far the fork legs can travel up the stanchions before making contact . Just curious , why are you looking for the figure ?

I'm lowering the bike. I need to know how far I can raise the fork up before it hits the lower triple tree.

I have 12 3/4" shocks on the rear like a Loop. Clearance looks fine for the tire to fender. I adjusted the spring on the proportioning valve to the correct length. I have the top lip of the fork dust seal at just over 5.5" and need to know if I can go a bit more. Hate to pull a fork off, I was hoping someone already knew the length.
