Buying a new bike? Thinking about it?
« on: March 18, 2023, 09:20:40 AM »
I've been watching the motorcycle market, and it appears to be "breaking loose" just a bit.

Inventories are coming up and I am keeping a close watch on the used market.  Not so many Guzzi out there, though.

Whatcha looking at ?

The Super Meteor is the only one that has caught my eye ,
But I'm trying to talk myself out of it !    That would be trading the 350 Meteor in on it , and the 350 Meteor is a Sweet Little Ride !!

kballowe ,  which one has caught your eye this time ?    Sometimes I think I should have kept that V-9 Roamer you sold me , but it just didn't handle as well as the V7 does.   :undecided:

I am well past the super saturation point, but if a Galletto was to become available I wouldn't be able to resist.

Hi David,

The Moto Guzzi V100 is out of service and ready to go! Can you send me the information on your trade, so we can finalize this for you?
The latest message from our closest dealer.  Waiting to here if I get a fair shake on trading the Tuono

kballowe ,  which one has caught your eye this time ?

I recently picked up a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and am having a lot of fun with it.
But hey, that doesn't stop me from looking for the next perfect bike !

I've been buying a bike a year lately. I've gotta break this (bad?) habit. Seems like it is fun to get one setup the way I like it the first year, the ride it a second year and then move on to the next. I keep two in stock and rotate through them. Getting the itch again, I keep telling myself NO!

I'll be checking out the Super Meteor when it becomes available, as well. My riding is pretty much local; no need for a big bike or a new bike. Once in a blue moon I jump on the highway to go eat with some amigos. Usually the DR650 is enough, but if the 650 Meteor fits me well, I'll trade in or sell one of my thumpers.

I’m with Dave in the super saturated camp. I’ve got a v7 Sport, Jota, Laverda Montjuic, Laverda 500 bitsa race homage and SL125 all in various stages of working or waiting. I would jump on a clean affordable Lambretta scooter to build for Sara though.

Fort 9 makes the Yamaha TW200 look like a piece of total enjoyment.
Nick Adams makes the Convert seem like pure serenity.

My Dear Wife makes the addition of a fourth bike seem very hazardous.

So maybe I'll overhaul the Ural?

Once you make it past 10 bikes the wife doesn't notice new ones.

Ural, now your talking!  I already have 2 so a 3rd would be very hoggish.

...maybe trade in your '22 toward a '23 to get the two into one factory exhaust?
I was at Holopaw Thursday looking at the '23 models. Sure are good looking.
But mine is still running fine and I do have that full time two wheel drive.

I'd go for a Nouvo Falcone Polizzia, LM II, Galetto.
I do keep an eye on a 2020 V85 TT ,'new 'unsold Stock at my Dealer.
None Guzzi,... KAWA Z550 and DKW 250 . A vintage Scooter is also on the List plus a Sidecar Rig, but currently have one of our Cars in the hospital plus the wife 'needs' new appliances

Well as the V85 is barely a year old I have been thinking it may be time for a new dirt bike. The current Husaberg 500 is a 2014 I got new and is the longest I have had any bike. Wanting something a bit smaller and lighter and the Beta 390 seems to be just perfect.

Nope.  I have no interest in anything brand new and have limited interest in getting anything else for old bikes at this point.  Kinda btdt.  The garage and shops are full of what I really want now and resources, especially time, have disappeared recently.  so I’m content to enjoy having what I have, even if that only means appreciating them as static art until my schedule is once again my own to enjoy.

But as always, if & when the right deal on something special is encountered, it will likely come home with me.  Ben helped me realize there’s probably room in the office for more bike(s)..….

I'm always looking...... Hence the Baby Breva I brought home last month.

Fortunately I am super content with my current bikes.

Right now the upcoming Buell super or adventure touring model is the one bike that
catches my eye and has REAL interest. Of course it's only in pre-production.
And won't be in the market till 2025 probably the same time as the v100 Stelvio.
If I buy something new it wouldn't be until then and those of the top two contenders.

The new Blue V85 really caught my eye until I got a good look at it and saw that the angle of the blue and white on the tank and side covers is angled the wrong way (to my eye)

The Mandello has lost its appeal at this point, and though several bikes catch my eye
They lose interest if they run a chain rather than shaft.

I definitely want to add a 1970s El Dorado or Ambassador. If I find the right deal
I will grab one right away.

I would like a 1971 Ambassador, down here in the Great Southern land I would not say the market is "breaking loose" but in the last month I have noticed a few bikes that would have been bought quickly 6 months ago not move or move after a price drop. It is hard to say what the next few months  or year may bring but the financial stress some are under may be enough lubrication for things to break free. Prices have a bit to drop to be where they were three years ago so the only people that will loose real money are those that have bought as an investment in the last few years and need to sell.

I like the idea of a royal Enfield classic 350.  I would like to test ride a Honda Fury.

Test rode the Indian FTR a couple times.  Test rode the Triumph Scrambler XE.

Well I'm a man so I'm always thinking about it...

I do like the idea of the V100.  S model naturally.  Then I start to do the mental mathematics and add freight, prep, taxes, tags and end up at $20K+ .  And that's when I think about those two completely paid for nearly new bikes in the garage.  I'm sure I'll eventually watch enough YouTube reviews that it will break my soul and I'll buy one in a moment of weakness, but not today Satan....

I'd really like to have a new Harley Street Bob or Softail (which are basically the same thing) with that 8-valve motor.
Ah, but they are ugly ugly ugly.  If they come up with chrome and decent metallic paint THEN I would get one.  Maybe.

Not this year or next because I got hammered by the Unholt Triumvirate of High Taxes (California), High Living Expenses (again California) and a huge drop in my 401K.

A man's gotta dream:

Griso 1100
Rosso Corsa Lemans
1/2 a V50 III (with my son)
V65 SP - Finished but the Dyna died so it's non-op'd

I took a quick ride on the Triumph Scrambler last spring and I gotta tell you I connected with it pretty much the second I sat on it! It fit me to a T, and really all boxes were checked during the ride. The Fun/project money is all all going to other things [old convertible, and a powerwagon im waking up..] that there is zero chance a new bike if finding a home in my garage. Two things most on the want list are a sidecar rig, and also a smaller beater. Something to just jump on, ride to work, dont care if it rains on, or riding on the salt covered roads on those nice days in the winter months that come up..

I keep telling myself NO. I traded my Audace for a Triumph T120 a bit over a year ago. I didn't think the difference was going to be too much but due to dealer fees and 10 lbs of flesh to California I wound up with a pretty good balance. But due to some frugality and side hustles I paid it off a couple of weeks ago. My 2019 V7lll Special is also paid for so I think I will stick with what I have and be happy.

The scrambler has everything but a practical side when you look at what the same $$$$$$ can buy.  Love the suspension, the look, the ergonomics, the photogenic quality, but not the price.  The power is lost on me.  Don't need interstate passing power on a bike not designed for the interstate.

I have friends that keep steering me toward a BMW 1250 GS or GSA.  Heck, they even make a "low" model now - for us guys with short legs.  Still, I'm hesitant to let go of the $$$.   There's a lot of electronics on the new ones, but I think I'd just as well have an old air head.

Besides, I have this liter VSTROM.  It says "Adventure", right on the side.    :boozing: :boozing: :boozing:

A Triumph T120 Bonneville is less money. It is tuned more for a flat torque curve than horsepower. I like mine except for the chain.
