I'm just finishing up a restoration on a 73 Eldorado and having problems with the V/R I got from MG cycles ( the mechanical one ). The generator has been rebuilt and polarized by running as a motor per the G Bender site. I also polarized the V/R by jumping from the B+ to the D+ as per the V/R instructions. Not showing any charging going on when I start the bike, a voltmeter attached to the battery shows 12.7 volts with no movement with rev's. I tried another V/R from O'Reilly auto parts and it does the same thing. Both V/R's appear to be the same brand ( Import Direct made in China ). When I hook up the original Bosch V/R everything works as it should charging up to 14 volts. I hate to use the old V/ R on a restored bike, but don't have much faith in the Chinese replacements. Looking around the auto parts store websites I see replacements by Intermotor, Duralast and AC Delco are available but they all look suspiciously identical and wouldn't be surprised if they are all the Chinese unit. Anybody have any thoughts on this, am I polarizing the V/R correctly? After searching around on U-tube for some info I found a few video's that show polarizing old tractor generators and V/R's by jumping power to the field terminal on the V/R wouldn't that correspond to the DF terminal on the Guzzi? Would I be better off using the Bosch electronic V/R?
Thanks
