It wouldnt be a MG w/out little problems, got gas today and the lever on the gas cap would go down, I unlocked it and played around with it a bit and it loosened up but once in the locked position, it would not pivot down.
Has anyone else experienced this? Basically it binds and wont freely close.
Thanks-

I saw someone else had this happen on the Facebook group a few weeks ago. They ended up buying a keyless cap from AliExpress or some place like that.

I am still good—— but the Italians believe in Murphy’s law…..

Do you mean the little cover over the keyhole, or the entire cap?

Yes, just the little hinged cover

Did you make any attempts to clean or lube it? Thinking a little WD40 or dry lube might help...

I bought my bike second hand at 1,700km and this was already broken and getting stuck in the up position. I think the cast aluminium part has a small tab that retains the spring backed ball bearing from popping out too far. This tab is broken and the ball jams the lever. You can wriggle it side to side and gently coax the lever down. I put some lube on it and it’s mostly good but the dealer has a new one coming on warranty (so should be here about July next year).

My gas cap just did the same thing. Key cover stuck in the up position (better than down at least). Any updates on a fix or is replacement the only option?

Just a bit of WD 40.
Mine needs doing every 67 days...

Thanks. Have never done mine since buying the bike (plus I've gotten it dirty a few times). If every 67 days is the magic number I'll have to apply the WD-40 roughly 5.7x before it will work.

Or a shot of ACF50 so it lasts.
