Schooling on posting pics. for dummies (that'd be me)
« on: July 14, 2017, 05:50:17 PM »
Very soon I'll be off from Australia to Nordkapp again on the Norge and would like to be taught how to post pics. I've avoided learning so far, Norge Pilot did it for me but I should learn. Can someone tell me how ? With all due respect, please don't use jargon because I am CLUELESS!!! Also don't describe something presuming I have a background knowledge 'cos I don't. I will try my best to understand so please be gentle with me.... It's my first time

Thank you two wings. I REALLY like the sound of the third party option. I don't even know what an imaging device is. If anyone wants to, can I just e mail my shots to them and they post them like Norge Pilot did?

I'm definitely no computer expert, but I have a background in research and file management, take what I say with a grain of salt,,, what works for me may not work for you.

First, I don't believe in using any 3rd party hosting or cloud technology for saving my precious files. I manage my own files(docs, pics etc)

Get comfortable with whatever device you're going to be using, hopefully it has a seperate drive for storage,,, ie. on my computer my operating systems are on my "C" drive,,, I don't like to mess with those files,,, so all my file storage is done my "D" drive. ( and backed up semi regulary on thumb drives)

Learn how to use folders to manage your stored info or pics,,, ie on your storage drive, create a folder in your name,,, inside that folder, create a folder titled trip 2017 with whatever descriptors you chose,,,, if you plan on taking a large number of photos,,, I would create a seperate folder inside your trip folder titled photos,,,, inside that folder,,, create a folder for each day,,, use yearmmdd as folder titles to make it easier to sort through multiple folders later on,,,, if on a particular day,,, you go to a few different attractions,,, you can creat folders for each seperate place within the folder for that day.

When it comes time for you to upload a photo,,, and WG gives you a prompt to select from your computer,,, you know exactly which folder you're looking for and where it is on your computer,,, simply double click the image and upload the photo.

      Clear as mud,lol.

      Good luck

If you have pics on the device you are using now to access this forum, reply to this thread and when the text field opens up with the emoticons (funny little faces) above it click on the 'Add image to post' link below the text field and see what happens...follow the prompts to choose an image from your computer to post....
'
Ok thank you two wings, I did that and got right through and got a photo with the tick. Is it possible to tell me how to transfer it into the reply page ?

Ok so I can now reliably push the "add image" button and get through to photo's. I'm able to upload the shot I want on the imgbb page (whatever the bloody hell that is!) but how do I take that shot back to the reply page ? If I can do that I'm set like a jelly.

not sure which device you are adding the photos from, but with my iphone, when I click on "Add image to post", it opens up and brings me to "imgbb" page.

Once I successfully browse/add the photos in the "imgbb" page and clicked "upload", it will closed that "imgbb" page once it loaded the photo and automatically brings me back to the original text screen.

Huzo,

Give it another go at it. It sounds like you are doing it right. I have on occasion followed the prompts and the image did not show up in the post.

Try replying again. When the reply open up with the text box, use the "Add image to post" text link that you will find below the text box. It open in a new window and prompts you for the location of the image you want to load. If you are on a PC or Mac, you can drag and drop them into the new window. Or you can select to browse to the image you would like to add.

It's really pretty easy with IMGBB. Give a a few more tries here.

When I try to drag and drop to imgbb from my computer, I get the circle with a line through it. If I do it anyway, Chrome gives me the Oh Snap..

Oh, I see. You have to click on search your computer instead of having already searched and dragging and dropping.

Chrome does funny thing sometimes...even if it is a drag and add.

I tried inserting a picture where PhotoBlockit was, and imgbb uploaded it into the post, but didn't display the picture. Jeee sus, what a nuisance. I'll try another browser, but I'll bet that isn't it.
Edit: Firefox works

Many moons ago, Luap allowed us to post images to WG but it began to slow things down or eat up too much drive space or something like that as I recall. He, (Luap), suggested we use a hosting service so the images were not on the WG server. Now it seems we have come full circle and are back to posting pics to the WG server???

This begs the question, which perhaps ought to be in its own post, IDK. Moderators, is this going to cause the same kinds of problems that happened so long ago?

That's my question, too. I'd hate to go through all the trouble of restoring the 863 pix I have on the Lario and Aero engine threads and then have the same problem in the future.

Ok then, I think the problem is that I don't have an account for imgbb. When I try to set one up it asks for a username containing Letters, numbers and"_"  So I entered "Huzoguzzi1200" does that not supply what the damn thing asked for ????????????! or what.

You don't need an account with imgbb to post. I don't and I am able to post.

Which internet browser are you using? Chrome? Firefox? Internet Explore? or even Opal?

Sometimes different browsers do funny things and you maybe need to try a few time if it does want to be funny.

Once you get to imgbb page, upload the picture. Let it does it thing & it "SHOULD" load and jump back to reply page

What would an example of a username containing Letters, numbers and "_" be? I tried "huzo_guzzi1200" plus a hundred other combinations and it said to "use the requested format", I thought I did. If anyone wants to make one up for me I'll use it !

Photos are not stored here.  Only code to the offsite location that stores the photos for us.  Thus, zero slowness.  Win win.  Photos have never been easier to attach to posts as they are today.
