FWIW, I find the 1100 EV/Cali to be quite low in the seat and very easy to manage, despite the weight. In other words, they carry their weight very well.

1982 XV750/1100 mongrel
1990 XT600Z

Has paint damage on the tank, so maybe you can knock another $500 off. That would get you to 3800 miles for $3500.

For what I understand your looking for, a 1100 Cali type would not fit the bill. I have an '04 EVT. I hate it around town. I LOVE it on the highways. The last time I tipped it over, I could not right it by myself. They are a fairly top heavy bike. It rides great, but making a U turn is a chore because it has a very narrow fork stop to stop compared to my Loops and even my R75/5 or HD. I want to turn the bars a bit more and can't. That is why I tipped it over, slow speed in a parking lot and hit fork stop and to correct, needed a bit more travel.

You really might want to look at the V7 series. I do not own one, but I have test ridden a few. Not too heavy, not too tall. Solo it will take you down the road at 70mph or more. But.......

I would run like heck from a '16 model, maybe even '15. Some had issues with the crankshaft thrust washers. If it does, not a cheap fix. Everything before and after, are decent solid bikes.

Hope this helps a bit,
Tom

I'm not a fan of threads that just peter out with no resolution.

So in the interest of SOME degree of closure—to this chapter, anyway—the seller of the Nevada got a deposit on the bike from a guy at the Meltdown (Hendersonville, NC) yesterday. https://www.tonuphighlands.com/
The buyer's scheduled to come back up from SC today and finalize the deal.

I'm still on the quest.

TBC...

You snooze you lose.In 1971 I had a chance to buy an Ambassador for 1000$ but I couldn’t decide .Whe I called a couple days later it was long gone.I didn’t get my first Guzzi until 1979.

You snooze you lose.

Yep."He who hesitates is lost."
But also, "Look before you leap." Finding the golden mean between those two can be tough!

I also think it's a "loss" to buy quickly, if you're not positive about the purchase. The Nevada was close but not exactly right. I couldn't quite shake the '80s Virago memories it evoked....

...In 1971 I had a chance to buy an Ambassador for 1000$ but I couldn’t decide.

According to the Internetz, that's $7700 in "today dollars." I get the hesitation!

The last time I tipped it over, I could not right it by myself. They are a fairly top heavy bike.

I have crashed more bikes than I have dropped, but the only one dropped that caused serious effort to right, was by CBF1000A. Despite being only about 570 lbs wet, it was a heave and a half to get back onto its wheels (I thought I had put the side stand down, but had not  ) Every other bike I have lifted, I have just grabbed the handlebars and raised them, no struggle. Obviously, CoG matter quite a bit, not just the weight.

Deal fell through. The seller is now offering it to me at $3450, which is still too high, I think.

In fact, he'd have to come down well below $3K, since I've pretty much moved on mentally. It's funny how you can pretty gung-ho about a bike, then do a little more reading/learning, and decide it's not quite right.

I think it was Perazzimix who said it, that Nevada is a $1200 bike in VA.  If you can find one.

Deal fell through.....how convenient? Seller trying to whip a buyer into a frenzy that isn't there.

I was a little whipped after the test ride, but I never got frothy!
