I found a job at the local Kubota dealer so I’m turning in my notice Monday at my current job. Taking a cut in pay and benefits, but I’m going from working 12 hour days Thursday thru Monday to working 9 hour days Monday thru Friday. Also instead of a one way hour commute into Atlanta daily my new job is only 10 minutes from my house. Spending time with my family in the evenings instead of eat, bathe, sleep! I may actually be able to start doing meet n greet rides without having to schedule a day off!
I am somewhat nervous about less money, but tbh I really expect the “intangibles” to make up the difference.

We apparently gave up making money for a living when my wife was pregnant with our daughter. She graduates from high school in a few weeks, then immediately leaves home for a summer internship 600 miles away. The time with family and your own life is a one-chance opportunity to experience. It's worth more than money.

I traveled an hour to and from work for one of my jobs. Never again. Heck, 30 minutes is pushing it for my sanity when it comes to traffic.. Time's important for me. My current job went full remote, and while I dig it, even before then, I only had a 7 minute commute.
Hopefully the new location means some savings in $$$ but most importantly peace of mind--traffic sucks, and more time to do other stuff!

Driving an hour into Atlanta sucks. Then driving a big rig for a job in traffic probably sucked just as much. You should be able to cut back on the blood pressure meds some.

The stress in your old job had to be very high.Sometimes it just isn't worth it in the end.

I think you've made the right choice.
Everything in the equation has a value. Less commute time and more time with family is good. Less physical and emotional stress will pay off
both immediately and in the future.

Oh,man. So much to gain by this move. My 600 mile a week commute lasted 15 years (and 285 around Atl is no picnic!).
Now I'm 17 miles from work. I was the proverbial frog in a pot of water, slowly heating up over the years. Didn't realize the toll it takes on EVERYTHING in life. -until you walk away from it...

You'll love being around tractors and their people all day :thumb: sure beats hauling dangerous loads dealing with the idiots in traffic!

I was making good money running tanker in Dallas/Ft. Worth with 6 weeks paid vacation. They gave me a choice of transferirng to Stinkadena, I mean Pasadena, TX or taking an early out. I took the early out and moved to beautiful East Texas with a monster drop in pay.
You can get by on what you make. Oh, and no telling how many years it added to my life to get out of the MetroMess (Dallas/Ft. Worth.

Good choice! I left a toxic government job with stability, decent pay, and excellent insurance to be a stay-at-home mom for no pay/insurance but fantastic benefits. I get to hang with my kids and hubby all day and ride my bikes whenever the heck I want.
Broke by happy in Phoenix. :thumb:

My commute used to be all over the country. I would ride my K75 50 miles to Deer Valley airport, stash my bike in the hanger, grab one of the company aircraft and head out. Fly someplace remote, grab another plane, fly it halfway across the west, repeat. I might be back in 12 days or three months. Stressful? Only when something went wrong and occasionally something did, but that's why I was paid the big bucks. Do I miss it? Sometimes. I do miss the money.
I have had stressful employment and like most of you know, it just ain't worth it.
So good on ya for making a change.

Oh, you're going to miss the money to spend on things and things to do during all that time you're not at work :evil:
Seriously, I hope not, and it's certainly entirely up to you. Simpler requirements make for a happier life.

I remember quitting a job decades ago that was killing me. We needed the money, we were newly married and I was working as a Laborer on a crew with a heavy pusher where everyone was getting hurt.
I didn't know what I would do if I quit and it was tearing me up.
I quit the next day and felt a whole lot better and that's the way you can tell if it's the right move.

I had a pretty stressful job back in 2003. Had been there 18 years when one day they asked for volunteers for redundancy. New we were all going in 6 months time anyway so I took the plunge. Got a hefty payout to pay the mortgage off and on my last day I walked out the front door and just about floated off into space with the weight off my shoulders. Enjoy your new job.

Good luck to you. I can relate to cutting down the commute from an hour to 10 minutes. When I did something similar many years ago, after a few weeks I was looking for a short cut...........human nature. My commute now is 1-11/2 hours but it's a part time job that doesn't pay much but I thoroughly enjoy it and just work when I want to. Your psyche will thank you.
