Title: Centre Stand Question
Post by: tris on January 07, 2015, 01:25:05 AM
Morning All

As part of my winter "fettling" programme I pulled the centre stand of the bike to give it a coat of paint and a bit of lube!

2 questions

1) When re-installing it should the bolts be pulled up tight so that the stand rotates about the bush or left only just tight so that the bushes still can rotate? I only ask as I had one of each  ;)
2) Should there be one or 2 wavy washers?

Cheers

Tris

1/Tight, so stand rotates around bushes , VERY IMPORTANT as loose flogs out plates that make stop for stand
2/ 1 washer each side, just stops stand moving side to side

M10 or 3/8" spring washer should work, prob ok to just have one side too, not a biggie in scheme of things, but Gutsibits will have wavy washers in singles

I thought Gutsibits would have them too - but they don't!

I agree though - not a huge issue so if I find one I'll fit it and if I don't I wont  ;)

Had the same question a while back. Tighten those bolts up and the center stand wouldn't move. The cause? Aluminum bushings were frozen tight in the center stand. Solution? Drill them out (a little bit) and put slightly longer bushings within the original bushings. Greased it up and put it back together. The center stand is now tighter (no side-to-side motion) and much easier to use.

Lateness.

The bushes on the stand on mine are a "rattle fit" so no problem from that perspective. ;-T

I might still replace them if I don't like what I get when it goes back together as not a huge job

Hi tris.

I get my stuff from Stigs Stainless. They have the crinkle washers 11p each.

Thanks, seriously good link, they've got M12 x 1.25 stuff in SS too, didn't know anyone did off the shelf, I've made my own in past.
