1100 sport made into a cafe bike?
« on: May 14, 2019, 01:02:49 PM »
FIRST OFF, let me say that i consider my yellow 1100sporti to be one of the most beautifully styled bikes ever designed and why anyone would want to bastardize it by turning it into a cafe bike is beyond me. normally when i drop in some post from bikeexif or pipeburn i leave the denigrating comments to others because i know they will follow inevitably anyway.  this one is entirely too close to home for me though. here is what the owner said; " Adam liked the motor and fuel tank of the 1100 Sport. So he sourced a 1996-model specifically for this project: "“Bought it off a Guzzi forum from someone who would be devastated by what I did to it,”" he jokes." yeah, you're right bucko - add me to that list.

Some might have issues with what I did to a Motus...

I'd say if you liked the engine and youre gonna hack it up... get a centauro!

But this looks pretty badass to me, so I just hope he sold the factory fairing on ebay so someone else can get theirs back on the road.

It is pretty awesome workmanship, but I'm not convinced the tail fits the front of the bike.

None of the bodywork flows together, and the headlights look like a plug for a AC adapter. Too bad.

I for one love to see a 1100 Sport chopped up! I say "Chop them all up"! Except of the 1100 Sports that I own.......

I saw where the black 34k miles 97 Sporti out of Seattle sold for $5k last week, which I think was good money for a somewhat higher milage bike. So the money that buyers are starting to pay for the 94-97 1100 Sports is starting to go up, even if only slowly. I know of about six 1100 Sports which were lost during the last three years due to theft, parting out, making cafe or street fighter bikes out of them, or got wrecked. So the numbers of good 1100 Sports that are still out there is becoming lower every year. For me, it's not really about the $$$ increase over time, but knowing that I'm pretty much guaranteed that I will not run into another stunning 1100 Spot or Sporti regardless of where I'm riding or showing any of my bikes.

I also think that others in years from now will buy the chopped and modified 1100 Sports that are out there and will work hard on turning those bikes back into stock 1100's......

I like the tank.... And weirdly the colour of the spring.

But wow.... I could live with it if it was a damaged bike with the body work smashed, but to do that to one?!

At first I thought the headlamp set up sorta wierd, but it grew on me

I like it, the only thing I'm not too keen on are the silencers (mufflers I think in the president's english).

Apart from that I really like it and would gladly own it, it's a fresh take the colour is different and it's not another chopped up, naked cafe racer

Mind after my builds I suppose many would say my head's up my ass

I stopped reading when the writer said the engine was "bored out" .

Given the issues Guzzi has had over the years with increasing capacity without doing anything decent with the condenser and return system 'Boring out' a Sport would seem brave to the point of being unwise.

C'mon Pete, his private equity day job means he's more than smart enough to figure out a simple contraption like a carbureted Guzzi.
