V9, V85 & V7 850 rear wheel question
« on: August 22, 2021, 08:00:18 AM »
I've made many changes to my V9 roamer, including a complete V7 front end swap.  So I currently have a V7 racer front wheel and I've been wanting to get a wire wheel for the rear.  I've only had limited opportunities to suss out V85's and haven't seen any V7's in the flesh but it looks like they all share the same rear drive unit, and as best I can telll the swing arm on the new V7 looks the same as the roamer.

Now the question I have is does anyone have any definitive knowledge whether I'd be able to use either a v85 or new V7 rear hub on the Roamer?  I'm going to go a different size rim to what Guzzi (or Kineo) have.  I've used AF1's OEM parts downloads and there are a few crossover bits but I just can't tell for sure.

Sorry I can't help except to say I'm positive there are some differences in the final drives when comparing V7s, V7850s, V9s, and V85s.

I just know that at some points we were told they were strengthened for additional power etc

Could be internal or something that doesn't effect wheel compatibility, but they aren't identical so we probably can't assume compatibility without checking some dimensions or comparing say the part numbers of the coupler that matters with the wheel. I'd also want to know if the axle was the same OD but I suspect it is.

I have looked closely at all three, and haven’t been able to find any external difference.  I suspect they are all identical hubs, but you’ll want to verify before you buy.
