Need a loop favor
« on: March 20, 2020, 08:26:56 AM »
I have the fork tin removed from my V700 Corsa Record project.  Before doing that, I didn't get a plumb measurement from the headlight ear bolt to the floor with bike vertical.  I don't know of differences between V700-Ambo-Eldo, but do know that when you have your headlight mounted too low on your V7 Sport, bad things happen.

If someone could measure their bike and post or pm me the dimension, it will help me greatly as I'm doing these headlight ears and tach mount.  Thank you.

Clint,             I think the fork covers are all the same, the only difference is the depth of headlight bucket. V700's and early 750's had a longer shell. Placement was all the same w/cover ears. I'll measure mine for you as far as height.

There a few variables that will throw the measurement off: tire size and suspension sag come to mind.

Do yourself a favor and install a new Wirth fork spring.  After 50 years that old spring needs to be retired!

Thank you,  sirs.   Any input is much appreciated.  I'm expecting some sag and possible related longer travel in mine as it currently sits but have nothing to compare  it to here.

Many things on this incomplete bike appeared to be in good shape when I got it but I have no idea of mileage or when it came off the road. Comparing what I can approximate with 1-2 others here, maybe even one with replaced springs, would give me an average dimension.  I'm using the original long headlight, as much because I have it and like it as to possibly house electrical details.  It should also give a little more clearance depending upon where I locate it.  My goal is to not crunch it against the front wheel on the first big bump. btdt....

Wirth springs had been in my list until Charlie recently posted about preferring his V700 with original springs. Now I'm rethinking that detail.  This bike will be significantly lighter than an original bike, which would probably make stiffer springs even more harsh.  So I'm still undecided.

Just got back from storage space. V700 was ice cold sitting in there since Nov or Dec. I drove Jeep up there w/jump cables & tool kit.
Hell, it started right up. So, I went back & got the EV to trade. WHAT A JOY compared to all the crap they make lately. You can also tell it's my bike, but you can never tell bout a 3yr old lawn mower batt from TSC.  I also got to get tags so I swapped plates for now till Mon..
The bucket bolt on ear is 34 1/2" strait down to pavement UNLADEN. It it 4" from bottom of top tripple. Top edge of headlight rim is just below bottom of top tripple. Hope that helps.
Now I got to air tires & go for a spin.
Mine was on both wheels w/me holding it strait. Springs are original and a little bouncy & squeeky, I need to put grease back on them. I only weigh 150#.

Groovy cool- thanks, Steve.  That's a big help, especially the measurements from the bottom of the top triple tree.

iirc, I weigh somewhere around 150lb too.  But I have this nagging memory that my riding weight is closer to 220 or 230....

I think the disk brake Eldorado fork shrouds are a different length than the drum brake models, but that may not affect what you're doing.

Yup, no disc brakes on this one.  If I had one of those front ends, I might run it.  If I still had a spare 4 shoe brake, it would hard to resist running one of them.    Sadly, I sold all my extra big brakes a few years ago.
