Wow. It looks like he was pulling the helicopter along the cable at one point, like you would pull a large boat through the water along a mooring line. Is that right?

 Some impressive piloting/hovering there!

Always wondered how they did that.

Simply marvelous and amazing to watch. Talk about hazard pay! What’s the purpose of those orange balls? Visual aid for hang gliders and such?

He has the easy job.
Must be an apprentice.
That was the neutral line (ground).
He has no lines overhead.

There are videos of the same approach to maintenance on the HOT lines.
First step is to reach out with a wand to equalize potential between line and helicopter.
Result is often a foot or longer arc.

I’d never call that the easy job. The pilot is equally amazing and talented. So, they’re simply markers for aircraft then? Do the balls contain any electronics for cell towers,  GPS coordinates or anything like that?

I think they are hollow.  Yep, visual markers reminding the low flyer the presence of wires or cables.

Interesting. Would I give it a whirl? That would be a hell no.

I suppose it would be too easy to fasten your balls to the wire before it was hoisted into place.

So relieved when he finally landed. I was terrified his drill was going to slide off the platform.
