What Yuasa Battery for an 850-T3?
« on: July 07, 2021, 01:36:10 PM »
The 1978 850-T3 needs a new battery. I have fast access to Yuasa AGM batteries. Would like to know what model Yuasa battery folks are running in these bikes and how well they work.
Thank you!

The last proper regular lead/acid Yuasa battery I got for my V7 Sport (Tonti frame but not sure if same battery is used for the 850 T3) is a Yuasa Y50 N18L-A.  Long, skinny & not too tall.  good fit, no problems for several years & was very happy with it.    Maybe that number will help you with a cross reference.

I run the common lawn and garden battery that you can buy about anywhere for $30-$40.

Well, I looked it up, something YOU the poster could have done

GYZ32HL   or     YD30L-BS

Most likely $300 knowing Yuasa   Well, you got the recommended 32AH Yuasa #'s let's see if you are cheap!

This one isn't too far off my idea

Thanks for the responses and help. The shop carries YT12B-BS, YTX14-BS, and YTX15-BS. I guess those won't crank enough as they are not like the 30a you guys are showing. More amps, more money it seems.

If you are using one of the later starters it may be plenty , they are way more efficient than the original Bosch starters  :thumb:. Peter

I ran a cheapo Wally-World lawn tractor unit for many years like my flat-lander friend GJ and switched to ODYSSEY. They cost more, but

take up less space, when they're hot, they're really hot. But when they're dead, they're just as dead as a Wally world POS. It's splitting hairs really. it would be more Guzzi-esque to go cheap-ass

Just FYI..  The relatively tiny AGM Yuasa battery from my Honda VFR (..only 8.5ah) has been doing a fine job turning-over & starting my big-block Daytona engine for the last three months, and it's been charging (..and holding its charge) without an issue.  It was fitted as a temporary measure because the bike's OEM battery died whilst it was standing idle over the winter, but I only got around to acquiring a new (20ah) battery for it yesterday.  The tiny Yuasa battery is still fighting-fit, and this morning is showing over 13v at its terminals after trickle-charging on the bench last night.
