So I have to ask this question regarding BMW bikes.When I see "R80/7" what the heck does the "/7" mean??I assume the "..80.." means 800cc?You got me, but I was able to find a result from google search.http://w6rec.com/duane/bmw/slash.htm

BMW has used / numbers to differentiate model changes , and sometimes the numbers ween't in chronological order . The /2 was built later than the /3 . Roughly , /2 designates Earls forked bikes from about 1957 thru 1968 , /5 used from 1969 thru 1974 , /6 was basically the same bike , with a disc brake , 1975 &1976 , /7 1977 &1978 , dual discs and some other changes . Not exact , but close . Dusty
/5 was through '73/6 74-76/7 77-78 --> IIRC, only R100RS, R100RT, and R100S had dual discs, R80/7, and R100/7 had single disc up front.
Well , you are correct , with the exception of the R90S . Had just come in from the cold , I'm old , not enough sleep last night , take your pick ::) :D Heard a dealer call my '79 RT a /8 ??? There may even have been a /4 sold in the Euro market , and technically the R69 S and US weren't /2s . Dang Germans , supposed to be so organized and logical ::) Dusty

Wow! You definitely win the motorcycle monogamy award! Same and only bike for 33 years! That's got to be some kind of record!
1939 Ariel Red Hunter 500. Had the parts sitting around for years after building the '47 and finally got it running 2 years ago.Still have the Ariels and Guzzis.
I have only heard about the /2 /5 /6 and /7 although this site also mention a /3 http://www.bmweducation.co.uk/public/uploads/pdf/all_motorcycles_production_models_since_1923_pdf_1361191155.pdfThe R60/6 still retained a front drum brake, only the R60/7 had disc up front.
Suzuki 500 Titan, terrible bike but I didn't know better, it was about 19791980 Honda 750K, good serviceable motorcycle.1978 BMW R80/7, tried to turn it into a fast bike with some Del Ortos. It kind of worked. 1980 Ducati 900SS. Sold it for about a tenth of what they get now. Still kicking myself. 25 year break. 1977 Moto Guzzi 850 T3 dressed up as a Le Mans. Just brought it home the other day. Still sorting it out but so far I'm impressed. But the oil filter is where?!?!
