Chuck - I would clean up that "rat"....looked a mess, then she could retire in a nice air conditioned garage in FL.  What a way to go!   :D :D :D

Really Chuck, you know we all love that thing!

Bob

Hell, I'D like to retire to a nice air-conditioned garage in Florida!  What with the Wall Street follies over the past couple of weeks, however . . .

Sometimes I think my key contribution to this board is to give all the "mechanical guru's" and "seasoned riders" a good laugh!  ;D

Unfortunately, I never owned a motorcycle until about 11 years ago.  I grew up in a family of women and remember these oldies but goodies:

1. "You can't have a BB gun, you'll shoot your eyes out!"
2. "Motorcycles are dangerous, you'll get mixed up with wrong crowd, and end up in prison!"
3. "You can't play football!  You're to small and they'll break you in half!"

 :D ;D

Well, I covered all the bases above as a kid (Barring a trip to prison!  :D) under due protest except for the motorcycle.

My "tour-of-higher-education" began at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington along with my first brush with the "wild ways" of two wheeled motorized transportation.  The school, UNCW, is 6 miles from the beach!  A location I learned that was well suited for fun...but not for education (at least for me).  Anyway, I had a car so I just bought a yellow '78 Honda Hobbit to cruise around the sand dunes and beach houses.  When spring came, in my first year, the ocean was calling and I sold my moped for a surf board.

Fast forward 10 years later and I've finished under grad, grad school, have a little money in my pocket, no responsibilities, and plenty of friends to get in trouble with.  So, my first bike is a harley davidson.  A black '94 Harley Davidson FXLR for those of you that may be into the HD alphabet soup.

After 5 years of the world of HD I was ready for something else.  I really enjoyed it, but I like to try new things and had been traveling europe for several years with a steady exposure to european bikes.  Sold the harley, test road everything, and ended up on my yellow '01 California Special.

Maybe I'm still channeling the moped, because when I bought it I just wanted something fun, different, and I can fix myself (Well, maybe I'll be up to the repairs after a few more years of watching Wayne!  ;)).  Anyway, the Cali Special seems to meet all of that criteria and it's yellow!  Hmmmm.  Regardless of the connection, I doubt I'll trade this bike in on a surf board.

:D

Geez.  Some of you guys are real collectors!

I posted this on the other thread, but it seems more topical here.
I can't remember all my bikes, but here's a partial list . . . appearing in order of age, not ownership.

'49 BSA ZA10GF  (golden flash 650 pre-unit twin, plunger frame, FB/M magneto)
'51 BSA ZA10GF
'51 WLP trike (pic around here somewhere .  .gotta find it)
'56 Triumph T-bird (650)
'56 sporty  (Chain of Fools)
'62 BSA A65T
'63 (I think) Norton Dominator
'65 BSA 441V
'68 BSA A65L
'68 Triumph TR6R
'71 Triumph T100R  (oiler frame)
'69 Ambassador
'70 BSA 500V  (too big for a thumper)
'71 Ambassador (Rollonda)
'72 Eldorado
'74 Eldorado  (civilian FB)
'74 CZ 250 enduro (my favorite dirt bike!)
'74 Honda 175 SL (I think -- high pipes)
'78 Yamaha 250 enduro
'79 Suzuki 70 (for the kids)
'75 Convert
'76 Convert (Rodekyll)
'77 Convert
'04 EV (Evil Twin)

So that's all I can think of offhand.  The Rodekyll has stuck with me through the years, as did the CZ.  I sold the CZ recently to a kid who I made complete automotive shop class at the local high school before I'd sell it to him.  Poor guy came to me with every report card and progress report to show he was worthy . . . .

I've owned way more VWs. .  . .at least 20 vans, two Karman Ghias, and more type 1 and 3's than I can hope to sort out.  That's what happens when you wrench for a living.  In a way I'm glad I'm out of it professionally now, although there are days when I miss having the shop tools at my disposal.

I started riding in 1979, and have about 18 years of actual riding between then and now.

I order of appearance:

1979 KZ750 twin - rode it to Dallas Texas, and back to Indiana, two up.
1981 Goldwing - Never really went anywhere on it, traded it in on a new car in the fall of 81 as our first child was on its way.
1986 Suzuki Intruder -  Back on two wheels, but after 60 miles, I would be in pain.
1987 BMW K75T - Are bikes suppose to feel this good?
1989 HD Sportster - Long story, should have kept the beemer.
1990 HD Electraglide Sport - Now I know why they call them Hogs, should have kept the Sporty, or went back to BMW.
After a break in riding again, I pick up my 1976 CB750A, the Hondamatic in '95.  Rode it for part of a season and sell it.
Without a bike, other than my C100 Honda pit bike, until 2001 and buy the Hondamatic back.  Been riding it ever since.

Now I am in the market for a two up touring ride, and my search has brought me here after a test ride on a sexy red Norge.

Didn't know much about Moto Guzzi until the Jackal came along last fall, didn't really need another bike but was attracted by the V-twin design and M-G history as much as anything else, low end of season Jackal price didn't hurt either. Now I can't get enough Moto Guzzi. This is one great bike. I've learned lots from the people on this forum who are the best forum guys around,

owned way too many to remember them all. most notable tho are a Hallman TT500. a '76 HD MX250, this one had what looked like front forks on the rear  for shocks and disc brakes stock. A 750 trackmaster Triumph, 750 triumph ice racing sidecar rig couple Beta trials, TY 250 a few BSA B50MX TM 400 Suzuki  lots of Bultacos MX, enduro and flattrack, several HDs, Hondas, Yamahas. currently have 2 '76 T3s, a R1200RT, a '79 bonneville special and a RED Norge. You can't have too many bikes. You can only have not enough room to keep them.

Wow, this makes me feel old and tires my brain trying to remember all the bikes :-\

Briefly, started in 1960 at age ten.  In 48 years of ownership, I can't remember a time that I didn't have atleast one bike.......

#1   Cushman "Highlander"?  looked more like a Vespa than an Eagle. Probably a late 40's or early 50's model.  John Fields and I went in together on it.  Can't remember if we paid $20 total, or we both put in $20.  We always had to ride it together because whenever we came to a slight upgrade, one had to jump off and run along side pushing it.  It died finally and I upgraded to a worn out Allstate Moped with a clothes pin holding the wire on the spark plug. Rattle can black..........

1st new bike:  1965 Honda CB 160  (not counting a brand new Bird 3.5 hp mini bike with ape hangers and banana seat)

Best Bike:  1980 GS850G Suzuki with full vetter fairing, bags and top case

Worst bike:  197? JS (or JT) 185 Suzuki.....2 stroke dual purpose that burned holes in pistons frequently ( I was smart enough to be able to change a piston, but not smart enough to figure out (at the time) why it kept burning holes in the top of them :-[)

Wildest bike:  street--1974 Yamaha RD 350 or dirt--197? Honda 250 Elsinore..........I'm surprised I survived these two :o

Sexiest bike:  1996 Guzzi Sport 1100 oversized "full" floating brembos, staintune exhaust, K&N pods and RED!!! Folks would come over just to hear it idle!!!

Can't think of any other superlatives right now.........Ciao

Just realized - I left out my Triumph Speed Triple on my list.

Now that is just WIERD, since it tried to kill me....

How spooky is that?

OK - The Truth - kept riding faster and faster and couldn't SLOW DOWN - it finally caught up with me. Damn hooligan bike....

Started in 1965 at the ripe old age of 14 with a 1942 Harley FL Knucklehead, bought from the farmer next door for $62 and rode it home.

1948 Harley FL
1951 Harley FL
1948 Indian Scout Sport Dirt tracker
1957 Harley STU Ice Racer (My stupid Year!)
1937 Harley UL, I owned this one one day.  I rode it from Antigo to Milwaukee, about 200 miles on 30 year old weatherchecked tires.  I blew out the front one, slid under a semi trailer and sqeezed it under a guard rail on Silver Spring, less than 2 miles from home.  This also happened during my Stupid year.
1942 Harley WLA, actually owned 4 of these at once.  My brother and I talked a bunch of friends into splitting a volume purchase from GoldFish Surplus in Milwaukee.  Of course, when the bikes arrived half of them didn't have any money.  I think they ended up costing us something like $40 each.
1946 Harley WL Servi-car  (trike)
1956 Harley KHK
1952 Triumph Thunderbird
1958 Harley FL
1960 BMW R60/2
1978 Maico Blizzard
1965 Harley FLH (My first sidecar bike)
1959 Triumph Bonneville
1976 Harley FLH with a sidecar
1974 Honda CB750
1976 Goldwing
2 1978 Goldwings
1980 Yamaha IT175G and 1983 IT490K hill climbers (Dumb year two!)
Chrome tank Ducati 250?  I don't know what year it was, we never licensed it.
Same with a BSA 441 Victor.  They were strictly off road toys.
1986 Aspencade with a HitchHiker sidecar
1986 Tourglide with Lehman Trike conversion.  I'll never own another trike, EVER!
1987 Honda TransAlp, really this and the Valkyrie are the only ones I would want back.
1989 Honda Hurricane
1996 Harley Road King with sidecar
2 1980 XS 850 Yamahas, one with a Dnepr sidecar.
1981 XS1100 with a Dnepr sidecar
1998 Honda Valkyrie with a Ural sidecar
1999 Guzzi V11 EV with a Motorvation Formula II sidecar

and coming soon;

a 1981 Goldwing,
another Motorvation Formula II sidecar,
and a 1974 Guzzi 850T.

I'm guessing there's another half dozen or so that I've forgotten.

If I keep up this pace, I should have a pretty good list in a few years.
