Incredibly cool. Too bad the sound is missing.

I noticed the Guzzi is quite wobbly at braking and accellerating.
wonder what went wrong with the Guzzi. brilliant start by Lewis BTW.

Bumpy track and suspension setup choices.

Pretty amazing to see the antiquated spine frame hanging in there with more modern machinery.

Stroud on that Britten looked incredibly smooth, the Guzzi disappeared somewhere in the 7 min area and only reappeared to go to the pits - something broke.  The Guzzi looked to be a handful, but he stayed with it amazingly well.  Yes, too bad there isn't any race sounds from the bikes.

BTW... last year I treated myself to one of the Britten models from there web page that I've lusted over for years.
Now I need to someday assemble it. I new that that would be about the closest I will ever come to owning one. :bow

Awesome! Thanks for posting. I had the pleasure of watching the Britten at Daytona back in the '90's. I wish I would have had the opportunity to see the Raceco UK and Three Cross Daytona's ridden in anger. Thanks again for posting.

I've(too old) never ridden a Britten, but I saw 1 up close and sat on the 1 Barber's Museum has.  :-X  It felt like a Ducati F750 race bike in size.  ???

I watched Paul Lewis race that bike in torrential rain at Thruxton- he is a very talented rider- shame there is not more footage on You Tube of him riding the wheels off that Guzzi, which incidentally is now road registered somewhere in Scotland. Raceco managed to get the weight down to about 160kgs in race trim.

I am lucky enough to own a similar 1225cc Daytona with the same frame mods- wish I had the same riding talent at Paul Lewis!

Yes the "angry ant" was a very talented rider.
I love the Britten,it appeals to my engineering brain and I loved the man as well for his "can do" style and dedication and intellect.
Having said all that though and being totally objective the Britten was grossly overrated as a race bike. Nowhere near as fast as the legend suggested.
Last time I saw one race was Phillip Island maybe 12 or 14 years ago and it was about as quick as a good 600 supersport at the time. 1.42's from memory or there abouts.
Its main issue apart from reliability due to lack of coordinated development was a major design flaw. That being it was WAY to tall to handle well. It doesnt wheely everywhere because of its power, its due to a ridiculously high C of G which makes it a chore in the tight stuff as well.
Look at Andrew Stroud, he looks like hes sitting on a fence. Love the  look and engineering though.
Ciao

Good clip, comments are funny too
At least Loopy didn't bin it, was pushing it hard but breaking it maybe worse, they blamed a big end failure ??
Stroudy's the man, just playing, even in the "battle". I've seen him on that bike quite recently (09), still just pulls monos everywhere.
He plays a bit off track too, has a tribe of about 10 kids !!!

Sorry, but I didn't see the Guzzi anywhere in this clip. However I did see two fine Kiwi racers riding Kiwi-made bikes and virtually lapping the field. Sure made my night. We're soon going to have the opportunity to see these same two Brittens race over Feb at a series of classic bike meets at the Pukekohe, Hampton Downs, and Ruapuna circuits. It's a great way to celebrate the 20 years that have passed since that clip, and John Britten's untimely death etc. Meanwhile here's a thumbs-up to Stroudy, and wife Karen. With the help of the latter, he has produced more offspring than he's won New Zealand Superbike championships (9 times at last count), and considers them as his greatest achievements. To whet appetites further about the coming Britten celebrations, watch this:

Caught it already on believe it or not a DUcati forum.

Great bit of footage, but you can't really say its down to the Daytona's handling ability  ;D

I still think one of the guy's who proddy raced one here in the UK had it right his articles were entitled Riding the Bus

Thanks for posting

Me too!  Ummm, sorry to seem dumb, but the bike on the tail of the Britten didnt look like a Guzzi to me. Maybe I need glasses.  I couldn't see any heads peeking out the sides.

Thats a pretty impressive Guzzi. I remember watching the Andrew and the Britten stomping the field at Daytona including the hot Ducatis of the time. No other bike could get as close to him as this Guzzi did.
I think he wheelied the full straight after the horseshoe every lap. Those were the glory days for AHRMA racing.

Says big end failure in comments, possibly the old oil pump gear breaking trick ?
He did win the Euro series so it got resolved, guessing Amedeo fitted Ago gears and a needle bearing pump, I'm sure story is on net somewhere ?
