Guy movies are by definition movies that women just cannot relate to. With that in mind, here are two of my favorite "road movies".

Vanishing Point

Two Lane Blacktop (no story, no dialogue, great mood!)

Sexy Beast (no, not porn, :-) but a great British gangster movie)

Sexy Beast is a great movie.

Layer Cake with Daniel Craig,Tom Hardy, Colm Meaney is another British gangster film.

Two Lane Blacktop is my favorite of those minimalist race car movies. Especially Warren Oats in his GTO.

We have a project at work that's in the crapper and a couple of weeks ago our customer sent us a "letter of concern."  I showed Hans Blix to the team and it cheered them up a little:

Apocalypse Now deserves to be mentioned, and I add Lawrence of Arabia.

Fitting for this site, since Lawrence died riding his Vincent cycle.

Fitting for this site, since Lawrence died riding his Vincent cycle.

"In May 1935 Lawrence was riding the Brough back home from Bovington in Dorset to his nearby cottage at Clouds Hill. Suddenly he came upon two errand boys on bicycles, swerved to avoid them and pitched over the handlebars onto the road. His head struck the ground and he sustained terrible injuries, which would claim his life six days later. The motorcycle was only slightly damaged in the accident and was returned to the factory to be repaired by George Brough."

I don't see anything political in Tora, Tora, Tora. By any measure, the attack on Pearl Harbor was a brilliant military operation.

Patton, however, i take personal offense with. Given the context (Vietnam), the film definitely was slanted to make him appear like a bellicose, meglomaniacal bully. In fact, Patton was the most experienced, and certainly the most well read leader the Allies had on the Western Front. Depite his bluster, his method of fast attack and encirclement saved many more lives (on both sides) than the more conservative meatgrinder tactics of Bradley. Ask anyone who served under Patton and they absolutely knew it and would follow him anywhere. The Germans certainly took stock of this and considered him the only really serious professional soldier fielded by the Americans. Nevertheless, history has decided to demonize the "warlike" attitude of Patton. The movie has gon a long way to disparaging his legacy.

"The Last Run."  George C Scott and a supercharged BMW

"Soldiers in the Rain"  Gleason and McQueen

"Zatoichi meets Yojimbo"  Katsu and Mifuni  well all the Zatoichi or Mifuni movies for that point, Takeshi Kintano is also pretty good

"Quigley Down Under"  Selleck as a true rifleman
Griso 1100
Rosso Corsa Lemans
1/2 a V50 III (with my son)
V65 SP - Finished but the Dyna died so it's non-op'd
