He believed Uncle Bob's tales of kicking a car , or has watched too many of those bad biker movies from 45 years ago .

And I don't believe that the word "thinking" applies to this situation!   ::)

Maybe he forgot that he took off the training wheel when he was grown up enough to ride on 2 wheels only.  :D

And if you're the car driver, what do you do?

Stop and laugh at the guy?

Stop and see if he needs help or is hurt?

Stop and smack him across the head for kicking your car?

Drive on, chuckling to yourself?

Guess it depends.

The operational word in the question is "thinking".  He wasn't.

You can tell the degree to which vodka mixed with testosterone was involved, when the bikers, who are riding like absolutely maniacal psychopaths, want to get up and fight with the car or bike they hit .....

I went to college with a couple brothers who were pretty serious Harley chopper biker types.  I remember one of them telling me about a guy they were riding with who kicked a big dent in a car that cut him off.  He must have practiced ahead of time, because I was told he first steered hard toward the car door, kicked the dent, wobbled a little, and rode off.  The morale is "practice makes perfect."

The other moral is, like the hundreds of times in my life I've heard someone say that the cousin of a badass gang member friend that they were riding with threw a sparkplug or handful of ball bearings through some citizen's windshield, ...... is that it probably never really happened.   It's a little hard to practice, hard to avoid getting bumped off the road or shot afterward, and hard to stay out of jail and the newspapers once you get caught.

Big, big dose of industrial-strength stupid in that video.

And only a small portion of it was caused by the cars.

Good question.  If he's hurt, help.  If he's not hurt, call police but don't wait around to get assaulted (or to risk assaulting him or being accused of assaulting him).  Best outcome - he's ok and learned a lesson and no lawyers got involved.

There's a trick to doing that.  You want a quick *pop* with the boot heel, not a follow-through roundhouse.

You're right, if it happened to a FOAF (Friend of a Friend) it probably never happened.  This account was told to me by a guy I knew well, who said he watched it happen, but still, one never knows without actually seeing it.  But 35 or 40 years ago you were less likely to get shot, I believe.

I must admit that I have.  A guy in a vehicle had been crowding me for some distance, on dusk so lights were going on.  An obstruction approached and he was so close I couldn't do anything but give a backwards kick with my boot, which hit his headlight. it didn't break but he backed off enough that I could avoid the approaching obstacle.

I was riding south in the right lane of a four lane arterial.  I was going the same speed as traffic around me.
I felt a light touch on my left boot heel and looking down saw the corner of a car bumper touching it.
I goosed the throttle to get about a length ahead and looked back over my shoulder.  The driver and his passenger were laughing hysterically
at what they had just done for a joke.
If you don't have a gun at hand there just isn't much you can do in traffic.

People can be flat out stupid. I had a fellow worker at the rehab facility I worked at put a rather large cockroach in my helmet before I left work.  I got about a 1/4 mile down the road that evening and this massive insect crawled across the inside of the full face shield. I instantly pulled over without wrecking and retrieved that bug.
The next day I found out what happened. I was suspicious. I found the guy who did it and had him up against the wall in the bathroom screaming at him. No amount of logic nor emotion had an impact. He literally was clueless about what he had done. He thought it was a real hoot. Not wanting to loose my job took precedence over my tendency to settle issues non violently: hence I did not punch out his face like I wanted.

A car full of high schoolers swerved in front of me , laughing hysterically . Unfortunately for the driver , someone told me who his father was . The ensuing conversation was very interesting .

  Dusty

Funny how things change when an authority figure enters the picture.  I was riding my bicycle near home a couple years ago and a school bus passed me.  Someone threw some trash at me from a window as it went by.  I got home and jumped in my van, found the bus farther up its route and talked to the driver.  He didn't know anything about it, but other kids on the bus started yelling "it was Charles!".  I told the driver that if it happened again, I'd complain to his supervisor.  He looked genuinely afraid and asked me to please not do that.  It hasn't happened again.

Stuck in London traffic once the passenger in the truck next to me tipped his garbage out of the window over me. The company office telephone line was on the side and when I called to complain about the passenger he said " the passenger?!". Bet I ruined someone's day.

I've tested Newton's Third Law - while courting Darwinian Theory - in much the same manner as our subject here.

Coming out of the tunnel in Monterey, a fella was merging onto the road on the other end, looked right at me on my bike and violently jerked his car into me. I hit the brakes... hard, and still the left rear bumper tapped my front wheel enough to just about topple me. There was no getting in the left lane as it was occupied by a beer truck and I was quite certain the bus behind me would mash me into a grease spot. Settle the wobble, get left hoping no one was on the dripping beer trucks tail and get outa the way of the bus as my BP climbs.

Anyhow, I'm livid and end up next to him and in a fit of fury intend to plant my Chippewa tread into his Lincoln door. My outcome was not so tragically kinetic as our man here - I remained upright - but quite the eye-opener in allowing rage to override a simple cause&effect equation.
